Colorectal cancer is highly treatable if caught early. Yet, despite having screening options available, a staggering 50 million people – approximately one in three eligible Americans – are not up to date with recommended screening. Recently an FDA committee endorsed a new blood test as a primary non-invasive screening option. It has the potential to motivate more patients to be screened and ultimately save more lives. We, the undersigned, urge policymakers, health care professionals, and our fellow advocates to rally behind this groundbreaking technology and give patients more screening options. For everyone who has been asking about Jay Williams, here's the latest update directly from him and his family: https://lnkd.in/gWhVFE3K A couple of thoughts on showing for people we care about during challenging times (specifically as it relates to cancer) in both word and deed-- How we talk about cancer matters. The language we use can help us to understand and cope with this disease that impacts the lives of so many. It can also help us to connect directly with those who are going through it in a way that centers their needs to maximize health and well being. Cancer is a diagnosis that changes everything. It's a time of fear, uncertainty, and hope. It's a time of ups and downs, of progress and setbacks. It's a time of love, support and strength. Some people talk about cancer as a journey. This can be a helpful way to frame the experience, as it can help us to see cancer as a process with a beginning, middle, and end. It can also help us to focus on the progress we're making, even when it's slow. Other approach it as a battle. This can also be a useful way to look at things, as it can help us to see cancer as something that we can fight. It can also help us to find the strength to keep going, even when things are tough. We all know Jay is a fighter. For him and his family, this is a battle AND a journey. So far it's been filled with good days and bad days, steps forward and back. If you haven't known how to talk to him about what he's dealing with, just reach out to let him know you're keeping him in your hearts. Your words matter. Your support matters. As he navigates the coming months and the challenges that lie ahead, each of you are among his greatest sources of strength. No matter how we talk about cancer, it's important to remember that we're not alone. There are millions of people around the world who are going through the same thing. We can support each other through this journey, and we can help each other to find hope. Please continue to amplify his GoFundMe campaign (https://lnkd.in/gzyyXH64), send love forward and find your own way to connect. We appreciate you. With love and gratitude, #TeamJay

Metastatic Breast Cancer Awareness Day is dedicated to raising awareness and support for those with metastatic, also known as Stage IV, breast cancer. This means that the cancer has "metastasized," or spread to other parts of the body. Currently, there is no cure - which is why speaking up, advocating for more research, and offering support to those with the disease is so important. Landmarks all over the world are lighting up today in the metastatic breast cancer ribbon colors of green, pink, and teal. General Manager Intercontinental (ANZ, Korea and Singapore) Member of Expert Advisory Panel for Genomics Australia
Great to see there is an Australian Government Senate Enquiry into diagnosis and treatment of individuals with rare and less common cancers and the many submission made. The public hearing is tomorrow. While some of the individual patient stories make for difficult reading, and I am sure difficult telling, I thank these people for sharing the truth. It is only by telling these stories that we can bring to life the devastating impact these cancers have and how we must do everything we can to change the prognosis. I was also encouraged to see so many of the submissions bring to life the vast impact Cancer Genomic Profiling (CGP) is having on cancer patient outcomes and as a result many of the submissions are calling for early access to CGP in a cancer diagnosis and for this test to become standard of care in Australia. Every year many promising new cancer treatments are emerging and many of these therapies are molecularly targeted. CGP provides a way to maximize identification of these matches and is the future of precision medicine in cancer. While we may not have a treatment for every type of cancer, we do have many already available. And the technology is ready now, today, to find the patient that matches these treatments. Let’s use it as every life counts! There's countless reasons why clicking the link to my interview with Mark Harrison, CEO of the Australian Prostate Centre, incorporating RULE Prostate Cancer could be a lifesaving listen. Here's at least 5, covered in our conversation, about PROSTATE CANCER, which we hope become as common, effortless and well informed as other cancers, that could lead to saving lives of so many men. ✔ Most men who are diagnosed with prostate cancer have no symptoms. ✔ Men should start testing for prostate cancer when they are 50 years old, or 10 years younger than the age a first-degree relative was diagnosed with prostate cancer (father or brother). ✔ A digital rectal examination is no longer a routine test with your GP. The first test for prostate cancer is a PSA blood test, taken in the same way as a standard blood test. ✔ The risk of prostate cancer increases from age 50. ✔ There are a range of treatment options for prostate cancer. Many men are carefully monitored, without needing treatment. Thank you, Mark, for sharing such incredible insight, experience and inspiration around taking action to reduce the impacts of Prostate Cancer, a disease that effects more than 200,000 Aussie men and kills at least 9, everyday. You are a true Legend 💙. #prostatecancer #menshealth #funding #policy #malesuicide #governmentfunding #mensmentalhealth #erectiledysfunction #incontinence #masculinity
