For the third year in a row, the Nordex Group has been awarded the Gold Medal by EcoVadis. We are proud as this places us in the top 2% of all general industrial machinery manufacturers assessed and recognises our ongoing efforts to make sustainability an integral part of all our activities. In particular, our proactive approaches to environmental sustainability were acknowledged with an above-average score, and we've increased our total environmental score by 10 points from last year alone. EcoVadis identified room for improvement in the area of sustainable procurement. From the establishment of a central system of sustainability management through consistent resource conservation in the product portfolio and concepts for autonomous energy management to fair and appreciative cooperation: these and other issues are the subject of the 2023 sustainability report recently published by the KHS Group. The key focus is on the company’s reduction in greenhouse gas emissions and, in this context, participation in the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi) – together with Salzgitter AG. For the first time ever, the turnkey supplier based in Dortmund, Germany, has produced an annual report. Earlier this month, I had the privilege of participating in a panel discussion for the launch of the 'Responsible Sourcing of HVO' report from the Supply Chain Sustainability School. The assessment, co-funded by 12 industry players, delves into the pros, cons, and critically, the unknowns surrounding the sustainability of HVO, aiming to equip readers with the knowledge to make informed decisions on its use in the context of their own organisation. After carefully reviewing the findings, Balfour Beatty plc has reaffirmed our stance: we will not be promoting the use of HVO until we are confident its use will not solve one challenge whilst creating another, especially given the expected increase in demand. During the session, there were numerous questions raised about what steps we are taking as a business to decarbonisation if we're not using HVO and I’m proud to share that at the beginning of the month alongside our evolved sustainability strategy, we published our comprehensive carbon reduction plan, detailing our strategy to decarbonise and meet our Net Zero targets, which have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). A big thank you to everyone who attended the launch and engaged in the discussion, it was really interesting to listen to different view points from the value chain and share ours. *Sustainability@BHTC* Vicente Herrera: “Recalling the teaching of John Elkington ‘the triple bottom line’ introduced in 1994 (often referred as people, planet and prosperity) motivates and inspires me to be part of the sustainability core team. The TBL concept is just a reminder that everyone is part of the same planet. Every message, action, decision, behavior and contribution matters. As a representative for BHTC Mexico within our sustainability team I am contributing to different local initiatives such as optimizing our waste and rainwater management or the implementation of charging station for electric vehicles. Notably, our most significant achievement to date has been the successful installation of a photovoltaic system in 2022. With overall 926 panels we are generating 19% of our total electricity on site. Thereby, the project is offsetting the emission of 615 tons of CO2 per year, which is equivalent to CO2 emissions from 237,810 liters of gasoline consumed or carbon sequestered by 9,232 trees grown over 10 years. I am happy and proud of that achievement and our contribution to the planet. Being part of the sustainability team is a unique opportunity to connect with colleagues in different subsidiaries and departments around the world. 𝐈𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐝𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐨𝐰𝐧 – 𝐭𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐝𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 🤝   The sustainable transition can be considered one of the biggest change management projects that public and private companies, governments, etc. are facing.   This is why we consider SDG 17, Partnerships for Sustainable Development, to be crucial for achieving the goals of the other SDGs.   Therefore, AVK Holding co-operate with partners across industries, governments, authorities, civil society, and the academic world. In recent years, we have had a special focus on partnerships in the water industry, and subsequently within SDG 6.   Our partnerships for sustainable development includes:   LEAKman – an integrated leakage management solution to bring down NRW levels. The LEAKman concept has been developed by nine Danish partners: DTU - Technical University of Denmark, GRUNDFOS, HOFOR, Kamstrup, Leif Koch A/S, NIRAS, Novafos, Schneider Electric and AVK Holding A/S Water Valley Denmark – a co-operation between Danish Industry, DI Vand / DI Danish Water Industries, water utilities, universities, research units and production companies. AVK has played an active part in the establishment and has a seat on the steering committee. Danish Water Forum (DWF) – works to promote Danish and international research, development, and innovation in the water sector. AVK has had a seat on the board of DWF since spring 2023.
