Vilans senior consultants Tamara Streng and Martijn Simons attended a seminar at Aalborg University in March, organized by Prof. Finn Thorbjørn Hansen. The seminar titled "Different uses of The Wonder Lab and Wonder Compass in the Netherlands and Denmark in healthcare context," focused on the Wonder Lab, an innovative dialogical method originally developed by Prof. Hansen. This method facilitates conversation about sensitive topics, fostering open dialogue among healthcare professionals, patients and relatives. The seminar provided a platform for sharing experiences, exchange of ideas and new developments in dialogical, cultural and phenomenological approaches in healthcare. #VBHC In Poland In Poland, there is a growing interest in patient-focused models of care, which is part of a broader trend in global medicine. The Ministry of Health and the National Health Fund are taking steps to gradually introduce elements of value-based medicine into the system, although this process is still under development. The implementation of value-based medicine in Poland currently includes various initiatives and pilot projects, often carried out in cooperation with the private sector, scientific institutions and patient organizations. Examples include pilot programs for coordinated care for patients with specific conditions, which place the patient at the center of the healthcare system and the cost-effectiveness of treatments. Full implementation of the VBHC model in the Polish healthcare system requires organisational, systemic and cultural changes, which includes, among others, the introduction of appropriate tools for measuring health outcomes, IT systems enabling the exchange of data between various entities of the health system, as well as the remodelling of the healthcare financing system so that it promotes high quality and cost-effectiveness. On March 7-8, 2024, MUL representatives took part in the largest Health Challenges Conference in Poland, where a lot of space was devoted to the implementation of patient-centered and value-centered care. A great new article in Børsen yesterday! Our CEO, Betina Lindhard Langemark, is featured in in article that focuses on the challenges that face SME's in Denmark, especially the challenges that the SME's that innovate the health care sector face. The article points at two crucial changes that are necessary for turning the crisis in the health care sector into not just a well-functioning sector but also to be able to create export successes: 1. The incentive structure is often almost counter productive to the implementation of new technology. The ability and will to seek new ways should be celebrated instead of being subject to suspicion. 2. There needs to be earmarked investments in new technology. Even though new technology often reduces the time and resources needed, it should never be seen as a way to save away positions for nurses and doctors. We're doing everything we can to innovatively improve patient safety and alleviate the constantly increasing pressure on the nurses, but we need less bureaucracy and better collaboration to deliver the solutions the patients need and deserve. The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality National Advisory Council - which was held in advance of AcademyHealth's Annual Research Meeting - delved into a variety of topics including the future of health services research, strategies to promote age-friendly care, consumer experience measurement modernization, and care for American Indian/Native Alaskan birthing persons. What was clear throughout the entire 1.5 days was 1) a strong focus on ensuring partnerships with diverse research and community groups, 2) the need to strengthen communication/dissemination best-practices, and 3) grant-making must promote implementation of learnings.
