Some take home messages from EERA DeepWind 2024 It was an interesting opening session where some important aspect of offshore wind development were highlighted. Development of sustainable offshore wind farms requires long term commitment from government, industry and Academia. This was very clear from the presentations in the Opening session – Frontiers of science and technology. My personal favourite from the session was Lena Kitzing's talk about "Contract for difference" . Food for thought! My colleagues Joachim Reuder and Etienne Cheynet chaired a well visited parallel session on Met-ocean conditions. We still need a better understanding of the wind over sea and to develop better tools for wind calculations on various scales! 🌟🌊 Today, we are thrilled to highlight the remarkable success story of EOLOS Floating Lidar Solutions, an innovative technology company that has secured a contract worth over €10 million with the Dutch government. EOLOS will deploy its cutting-edge wind measurement technology off the coast of Rotterdam for two years, a significant step forward in advancing offshore #windenergy. 🎯 This project aims to gather crucial data on wind behavior at distances of 60-100 kilometers from the shore. Such data is essential for the development of future offshore #windfarms, as it helps optimize site selection, design, and operation, leading to more efficient and cost-effective #renewable energy production. 🤝The Dutch government, through its agency Netherlands Enterprise Agency Agency, has granted EOLOS the opportunity to install nine measurement devices in a selected area designated for new wind energy projects. This initiative underscores the Netherlands' commitment to expanding its renewable energy capacity and reducing its carbon footprint. EOLOS was founded in 2014 as a spin-off from a technological research project by the IREC - Institut de Recerca en Energia de Catalunya, EOLOS has specialized in high-altitude wind measurement in marine environments. By leveraging EOLOS' advanced technology, this project will not only support the Dutch government's renewable energy goals but also contribute to global efforts to combat climate change by promoting #sustainableenergy solutions. 🎉 Over 300 visitors at Airborne Wind Europe’s stand at WindEnergy Hamburg 2024! 🪁 What an incredible week for AWEU and our members showcasing the transformative potential of #AirborneWindEnergy to a global audience. Our stand welcomed over 300 visitors, including industry experts, policymakers, investors, and renewable energy enthusiasts eager to learn about the latest advancements in #AWE technology. 🗣️ AWEU Speakers' Corner: A Hub of Innovation and dialogue where our members and the association itself delivered 15 insightful presentations on topics ranging from technological innovations to regulatory frameworks and market opportunities. The level of engagement was incredible, with many attendees diving deep into discussions on the future of #AWE. I attended Wind Finland Offshore 2024 today!🤩 🌱 Reflecting on my experience at the Wind Finland Offshore 2024 conference, I'm grateful for the valuable feedback from numerous industry experts regarding my product. As one of the few student participants, I initially felt a bit nervous😅, but the supportive atmosphere allowed for meaningful exchanges on equal footing🙌 In particular, I learned about the demands placed on products designed for inspection tasks, emphasizing the need for unmanned, automated operations and a significant reduction in inspection time. Offshore wind energy involves many variables, underscoring the importance of meticulous development considering various conditions to create realistic and impactful products💪 This conference reinforced the importance of carefully considering every aspect of product development to meet real-world challenges in offshore wind energy. I'm eager to integrate the insights I gained today into my project development, striving to contribute to the creation of innovative solutions that advance the industry toward a more sustainable future😁 #windfinland #wfoffshore #offshorewind

Every tonne of C02 avoided counts ! 👍 It's just a short step from academic research to innovative solutions that deliver concrete results.  🌍 For the Fluid Dynamics of Sustainability and the Environment Summer School, I had the pleasure of moderating this round table dedicated to innovative solutions for decarbonization. 🚀 Three companies presented their solutions and the challenges they had to overcome to a group of 42 PhDs from all over the world: - SpotLight Earth for rapid monitoring of CO2 storage dynamics - AYRO specialized in wind assisted ship propulsion - BlueFloat Energy to develop floating wind farms Many thanks to Elodie Morgan, Romain GRANDSART, Charbel Nasr who brought this debate to life and inspired the participants of this summer school jointly organized by École Polytechnique and the University of Cambridge.
