🟡 SKALA Partners acquires the rights to a large-scale solar energy project in Sweden Stockholm, June 17, 2024 – SKALA Partners hereby announces that the company has acquired the rights to a large-scale solar power project. The project is located in southern Sweden in electricity area SE3 and is in an early development phase. When the project is in operation, the project will have a capacity of approx. 45 MW and is estimated to contribute sustainable energy to more than 9,000 villas for the equivalent annual consumption of household electricity.   The acquisition is an important step in SKALA's journey towards becoming a leading player in renewable energy in the Nordics. Until 2029, SKALA intends to have a portfolio of projects in development and operation of over 1.8 GW in renewable energy.   “This project is a milestone that we are very happy to have secured. GoldenPeaks and Boryszew SA Sign 10-Year Solar Power Deal in Poland GoldenPeaks Capital has signed a power purchase agreement (#ppa ) with Boryszew S.A. to supply 24 GWh of #solarpower annually in #poland . The PPA has a 10-year term and the #power will be sourced from newly built #solar plants with a combined #capacity of 21 MWp. The #cleanpower will be sold to Boryszew Green Energy & Gas , a unit of Boryszew SA. GreenYellow to supply 16.3 MWp of solar power to Brazilian company Matrix Energia French #renewableenergy company GreenYellow do Brasil will deliver 16.28 MWp of #solarpower plants to Brazilian energy firm Matrix Energia, it announced recently. Under the terms of the contract, GreenYellow will invest, build, and be in charge of the operation and maintenance (O&M) of three photovoltaic (PV) parks under Brazil’s share distributed generation (DG) model in the states of Goias, Piaui, and Ceara. The new renewable energy portfolio will be capable of generating 34.9 GWh of clean #electricity per year, enough to allow Matrix Energia to meet the demand of 2,900 clients and cover around 645 municipalities. Last week, Ed Miliband announced an increase in the budget for this year’s renewable energy auction to over £1.5 billion. This funding aims to accelerate the delivery of clean, low-carbon electricity generated by renewable energy technologies such as wind turbines and solar panels. The goal is to provide affordable clean power to families and businesses, reduce the reliance on fossil fuels, and boost the UK's energy independence. The announcement coincided with the first meeting of the Clean Energy Mission Board, part of the government's mission to deliver clean power by 2030 and move towards net zero. The funding will be available through the Contracts for Difference scheme, which provides subsidies for clean electricity projects and aims to keep costs low for consumers. This design ensures that the central government's budget will not be impacted as subsidies are paid back when wholesale electricity prices are higher than the agreed Contract for Difference price.

A Danish energy giant is going to build Europe’s largest wind farms off the coast of Yorkshire ⚡ The Danish energy supplier Ørsted is planning on building Europe's largest and second-largest wind farms, Hornsea 3 and Hornsea 4, 160 and 65 kilometres (99 and 44 miles) off the Yorkshire coast in the North Sea. According to the UK government, the wind farms are a part of a wider slate of green energy projects that also include tidal and solar power and will provide enough electricity to fuel the equivalent of 11 million UK homes 💡 For many years Denmark and the United Kingdom have collaborated on advancing renewable energy sources. As an example, back in April this year the world’s longest electricity cable connection, Viking Link, was inaugurated between Denmark and the United Kingdom enabling green energy to flow across the North Sea. Rio Tinto is set to purchase all of the electricity generated from the 1.1 GW Upper Calliope Solar Farm in Queensland after signing a 25-year PPA with European Energy Australia. The electricity sourced from Upper Calliope will power Rio Tinto’s operations in Gladstone, including the Boyne aluminium smelter, the Yarwun alumina refinery, and the Queensland Alumina refinery. European Energy will oversee the construction and operation of the plant, located approximately 50 kilometers south-west of Gladstone, subject to necessary development and grid connection approvals. Once online, the Upper Calliope Solar Farm is expected to reduce Rio Tinto’s operational carbon emissions by approximately 1.8 million tonnes annually. “This agreement is a first important step in our work to repower our Gladstone operations and illustrates our commitment to keeping sustainably powered industry in Central Queensland,” said Rio Tinto Chief Executive Jakob Stausholm. “The task remains challenging, but we have a pathway to provide the competitive, firmed power our Gladstone plants need and we are continuing to work hard with all stakeholders, including the Queensland and Australian governments, on getting there." The construction of the Upper Calliope plant is expected to commence between 2025 and 2026. Once operational, the solar farm will contribute approximately 5% of Queensland’s current electricity demand. Spanning over 2400 hectares, the project will create 1,000 jobs during its two-year construction phase and support 100 direct and indirect jobs thereafter. European Energy CEO Knud Erik Andersen, noted: “European Energy is proud to be a strategic partner in this project with Rio Tinto. Our commitment to providing renewable and reliable energy aligns perfectly with Rio Tinto’s ambitious climate goals. “The Upper Calliope Solar Farm is not just a solar power project; it’s a testament to our shared vision for a greener future. By supplying renewable energy to one of Australia’s key industrial hubs, we are setting a new standard for industrial energy consumption." #cleanenergy
