Digital Health and Innovation Cluster Bulgaria led the discussion about the health innovation ecosystem in Bulgaria at the Pharma Forum organized by Мениджър. The panel discussion included Radka Kaneva, Karolina Lyubomirova, Todor Milkov, and was moderated by Rosen Dimitrov. A global study across 10 large economies, including Australia, Japan, and South Korea was conducted by Economist Impact in partnership with Roche last year. While 9 out of 10 countries had established standards for sharing medical data among domestic healthcare providers, only 50% had set up national-level electronic health record systems. Unless technology is integrated into health systems, we cannot create a seamless experience for patients where their health information is available at their fingertips, and support clinicians effectively. I couldn’t agree more - digital transformation of healthcare promises true data integration which in turn can enable connectivity and data-driven insights. This is where digital innovations hold great promise for helping labs, hospitals and points of care services improve use of limited resources in healthcare for the benefit of clinicians and patients. Every region is a little different in how they approach bringing innovation to their healthcare system as the The Economist impact report which Roche sponsored points out. Still we are making progress and approaching this transformation with a commitment to a patient-centric approach ensures we can bring the latest digital innovations in responsible ways to improve healthcare for the benefit of patients. A couple of weeks ago, I had the pleasure to attend and speak at the Value-Based Health 2030 Conference in Tallinn. Talking about a digital health project like H2O in Estonia felt like preaching to the converted! This is probably one of the most advanced digitalized country in Europe – especially when it comes to healthcare. It was really interesting to hear about the OnContact project, a like-minded project they have been running in Estonia. And of course, listening to a great presentation by Francesca Colombo from the OECD - OCDE on why #VBHC matters to healthcare systems and how digital technologies can be the catalyst, puts it all in a different context. These are not just projects, we need to find a way to connect the dots and make our joint vision of patient centered care a reality for patients across the globe.
