Charity trustees play a key role in safeguarding children. Even if you don’t work directly with children, there are lots of things you and your organisation can do to help keep children safe. This includes: 🟢 ensuring safeguarding policies, procedures and measures are fit for purpose and up-to-date 🟢 making sure everyone in the organisation is aware of their safeguarding responsibilities and knows how to respond to concerns 🟢 managing allegations of abuse against someone involved in the organisation 🟢 reporting serious incidents as necessary. 🤝 Today is #WorkingTogetherWednesday and we are discussing safeguarding governance in charities. The Charity Commission states that "protecting people and safeguarding responsibilities should be a governance priority for all charities. It is a fundamental part of operating as a charity". Safeguarding governance is crucial in ensuring a charity fulfils its responsibility in keeping individuals safe. A Safeguarding Trustee will hold overall responsibility for safeguarding within the charity, and will work closely with the Designated Safeguarding Lead/Officer. Key governance priorities for a Safeguarding Trustee include, but are not limited to: 📑 Ensuring there is a safeguarding policy and code of conduct 🔎 Planning periodical reviews of safeguarding related policy and procedures 🚨 Identifying possible risks and emerging risks 🤝 Ensuring that everyone involved in the charity understands how to recognise, report and record safeguarding concerns 👥 Embedding a strong safeguarding culture within the charity There are a range of useful resources and videos from the Charity Commission 👇 🖥️ https://lnkd.in/dsgCPrVf 🎞️ https://lnkd.in/eskACMmB #safeguarding #charities #keepingpeoplesafe #charitycommission #workingtogether #trustees #safeguardingpeople #governance #charity

As part of both HPA Group and the Amberley Volunteer Fire Brigade, this weekend has left me feeling absolutely humbled. The brigade often responds to mental health related calls, and these calls take a real toll on us as volunteers, especially when we feel so powerless to help. A fire; put water on it. A car crash; we have the tools to do the work we need. But the mental health calls, we want to prevent them rather than be the fire truck at the bottom of the cliff. As a brigade, we wanted to achieve three things; generate as many donations as possible for #IAMHOPE, spread the message about how prolific these incidents are and where to get help and lastly to work together as a brigade to do something great for our community. HPA Group was the Gold Sponsor of #SwimforHope, which shows the kind of workplace we are. We care about each other, we know our team and support and develop each other. A huge thank you to HPA, without your support of my volunteering, I wouldn’t be able to help the community in the way I do. 24 hours swimming was incredibly tough, but as a team, looking out for our mates, it was easy. And this philosophy relates directly to the construction sector workplace. #MatesInConstruction have been sharing the message. Our sector has a disproportionate huge percentage of national yearly totals of suicide and cases of depression. How can you help to fix the problem? Firstly, get to know your team, not just their name and what they do for you, but what is their sons birthday, what is there home life like, what does a bad day look like for them. Don’t follow some check sheet to formulate how to do this; be a real person, a real leader, a real mate. Be a real human. Secondly, do something when you know they’re not right. The first part of this is creating a workplace people actually enjoy, provide the motivation, tools and staff that people enjoy coming to work for. The second part is if you see them struggling, talking to them on a real level. Get out from behind your desk and find somewhere they feel comfortable, be it walking around site, at the bar or over the phone. Try to understand what they are feeling and do what you can to help them through. Services like 1737 do great for adults, and I Am Hope does just the next level for under 25s. They provide free counselling for anyone that asks, and you’ll be in front of a councilor within 2-3 days. That’s why we chose to donate towards I Am Hope for this event. You see, if you have a bad day at work, if you don’t feel valued at your work, or have things going on unresolved, you tend to take it home and not give the kids the attention they need and demand to flourish in life. They need the help. We can’t help the kids as workplace leaders, but I Am Hope can. If you feel the urge, please visit givealittle and search for Amberley Swim for Hope. But lastly, have a think about your team and ask, am I being a good leader? Cheers for the support from everyone!
What an incredible weekend it was! Amberley's Fire Brigade pulled off an amazing feat, raising an impressive $103,520.10 for youth mental health charity 'I Am Hope'. A dozen dedicated volunteers swam tirelessly for 24 hours, demonstrating their unwavering commitment to the cause. HPA is proud to sponsor this event and extends gratitude to everyone who contributed, making this remarkable achievement possible. https://lnkd.in/gEfXcnqB #CommunitySupport #MentalHealthAwareness #YouthMentalHealth #Fundraising #CharityEvent #Swimathon #AmberleysFireBrigade #IAmHope #GivingBack #SupportEachOther #VolunteerHeroes #MakeADifference #PositiveChange #Inspiration #TogetherStronger #EndStigma #EmpowerYouth #Gratitude #TeamWork #CommunityUnity #KindnessMatters #HopeForTomorrow #ImpactfulActions #Generosity #SpreadLove #ChangeMakers #BuildingResilience #HealthAndWellness #SupportingYouth #UnitedForACause

Can you believe it, the moment is FINALLY here! The curtain has opened on our Hand Up, Stand Up for Qld Kids Giving Day. For 24 hours ONLY, every donation to Life Ed Qld will be DOUBLED!: https://lnkd.in/gy4PqJ7u All this is only possible thanks to our generous partners. But the offer is valid only for TODAY, so we’ve got to make it count. 🎁 $25 becomes $50 🎁 $50 becomes $100 🎁 $100 becomes $200 Why is today so important? There are 30,000 reasons – because that’s the number of notifications the Department of Child Safety receives every year. And many more children are suffering abuse and neglect in silence. These kids desperately need someone to stand up for them. Today, we all have the chance to do just that. Every $30 raised will provide our essential Safe Kids, Safe Bodies program to one child, helping keep them safe from abuse. The more funds we raise, the more vulnerable children we can reach together. We’re aiming to raise an ambitious $75,000. But it will only be possible with your help! DONATE NOW to Stand Up for Qld Kids: https://lnkd.in/gy4PqJ7u SHARE THIS POST to spread the word, so we can reach our target!
