Society is facing extremely complex issues as we work to mitigate and adapt to climate change. States are setting decarbonization goals and anticipate offshore wind will be a significant component in achieving those goals. I believe that robust public processes bring better solutions to these complex issues. BOEM worked hard over the past couple years to create a more public process in the Gulf of Maine. There are many more steps in the process of siting offshore wind, and it is to our collective benefit for us all to bring our voices and solutions into the process. https://lnkd.in/euCXdE_z

In my column, All About Choices, in The Manila Times tomorrow (29 June 2024), I write: "While in Baku, Azerbaijan, we witnessed the launch of three RE [renewable energy] projects that will provide one gigawatt supply. These initiatives highlight the country's commitment to fostering a more sustainable and resilient energy system while navigating the complexities of global energy markets and climate policy."

“Onshore wind projects in Scotland need to become more attractive to meet our domestic climate goals”. Biggar notes developers are straining to clear internal hurdle rates for returns on investment – typically 6% to 8% in Scotland – in the face of better economic opportunities elsewhere in Europe.

It was a great pleasure to present at #PAMEC2024 and share my research about the climate change impacts on wind farm accessibility. Talking to researchers and industry representatives from countries like Mexico, Colombia and Costa Rica proved again that including both existing, developing and potential offshore wind markets in my research was the right call. In places, where the offshore wind will take more than a decade to bring to the industrial scale, it is even more important to understand long-term risks from climate change. I also realised that in some places, like Chile, the theoretical offshore accessibility in the current climate is even worse than in Europe, which could become even more challenging under the changing climate. #Offshore #Americas #MarineRenewableEnergy #OffshoreWind #ClimateChange

🚨 #NEWS - Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) welcomes the United Nations comments on the threat posed by climate disinformation. "GWEC supports UN Assistant Secretary-General Selwin Hart's message that we 'push back [on disinformation] and explain to people the value of climate action, but also the consequences of climate inaction'. GWEC has been actively engaged in researching the growing threat of disinformation to the energy transition. We are working with academics, industry figures and experts on tools to counter this threat and ensure the wind industry and policymakers can deliver clean energy quickly. The UN's People's Climate survey found 72% of people globally said they want their country to move away from fossil fuels to clean energy quickly - it is vital that industry, government and international institutions work together to deliver this positive change for people all over the world. A confident green world is on the horizon and we must not let bad actors obstruct progress." - Ben Backwell, CEO, GWEC.
