🌊 For this week’s Innovation to Market project showcase, Build aims to highlight Bunky, a conceptual app connecting UCSD students to local landlords and other students in search of housing and roommate opportunities. Bunky offers a faster and safer way to secure living arrangements. 🏘️ Housing conditions in San Diego have worsened, and students bear the brunt of recent supply chain issues. Bunky recognizes the urgent need for an app to streamline the housing application process, addressing the confusion students face. Finding a compatible roommate is challenging, and due to housing shortages, many students compromise on the quality of roommates for a place to sleep. Bunky positions itself as the bridge facilitating the seamless flow of information from house providers to users. 🔱 Bunky plans to segment its product into three parts. The first part involves providing users with leasing information about house conditions and connecting them with landlords. Users will create profiles linked to their UCSD accounts, receiving potential house matches based on their requirements. The second service stream focuses on creating an information pool for people seeking roommates through the profile system. Lastly, Bunky intends to furnish users with both roommate and landlord information. Check out their project here to learn more about their initiatives! https://lnkd.in/g393gB95 🚀 Tune in next week to see our last group from cohort 2, U Drip, as they aim to bring a personalized stylist right to your pocket!

👉 I'm here to help you create a vibrant place, harnessing the power of local communities 👉 I empower kids and teens to speak up and make a local impact 💜 #happytogether 💜
How not to stifle #creativity. 👇 👇👇 Recently, I had the pleasure of #collaborating with a group of young #urban #doers determined to make their #city more #vibrant for its #youth. 🍬 To break the ice, we embarked on a creative twist of the #marshmallow #challenge. Their task? Build the tallest tower using just 20 spaghetti sticks, a meter of tape and a meter of string, crowned with a marshmallow. 🔥 And guess what. 🔥 They started from the top! They stuck the marshmallow to the ceiling and worked their way down with spaghetti. 👇 👇👇 This example offers a profound metaphor for how young people think and act. By approaching #challenges from unexpected angles, they often come up with #solutions that may seem unconventional or even weird to us - adults. 🔔 And sure, we can argue that a tower should be built from the ground up (good luck with that!). We can also trust in their unique #perspective and see where it takes us. Who knows? Maybe with a shift in mindset, we can #collectively construct the tallest tower? It's easy to kill #creativity. So let's treat it like a treasure. #placemaking #happytogether #citiesforchildren #citieswithchildren

The impact of nature and parks on well-being is profound, offering numerous psychological, physical, and social benefits. Being in nature has been shown to reduce stress, lower blood pressure, and improve mood. Parks provide a sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of urban life, allowing individuals to reconnect with the natural world. The presence of green spaces in communities can foster a sense of tranquility and contribute to overall mental health, making these areas invaluable for maintaining a balanced, healthy lifestyle. For young people growing up in this generation, the benefits of nature and parks are particularly significant. In an era dominated by digital technology and screen time, regular exposure to natural environments can promote physical activity, creativity, and social interaction. Parks provide safe spaces for play and exploration, fostering developmental growth and a sense of adventure. Additionally, experiences in nature can instill a sense of environmental stewardship and responsibility in young people, shaping a generation that values and protects the natural world. By highlighting these benefits, the film can inspire families, educators, and policymakers to invest in and advocate for accessible, well-maintained parks and green spaces for the well-being of future generations. https://lnkd.in/eZHEEsTb

Passionate about the power of place making and capacity building for regional and rural communities. Strategic planning and communication specialist. Project management and strategic marketing
Our communities have a wealth of ideas and initiative that need to be harnessed. Empowering them to lead the change they desire and to play an active part in its delivery can offer so many benefits. Participating in this groundbreaking program is an absolute honour. Looking outside the norm for ways to fund and enable such ideas and initiatives to come to fruition whilst equally shifting the power of our local people to invest in and play a more tangible part in bringing their ideas to fruition. It’s collaborative, it’s building local capacity and most importantly building a more resilient way to respond to our local needs and taking action. Win:win for everyone, wouldn’t you agree?

This week, we got into the first focus session for the 2024 Living Future Institute of Australia Accreditation + Regional Intensive Course! Co-facilitators Samantha, Laura & Stephen got to meet another awesome cohort of participants and explore the ‘Place’ and ‘Beauty’ Petals of the Living Building Challenge. These are two of Sam’s favourite categories, which require teams to consider fun (and important) things like; regenerating ecologies of place, protecting land for species other than humans, integrating biophilic design, and educating and inspiring others. 🌱 Do you have a favourite Living Building Challenge Petal? #Done #ProjectPlanningandDelivery #RegenerativePractice #ProjectManagement #Connection #Community #Collaboration #LivingBuildingChallenge

📚 I'm back with my #readoftheweek from Canvas8! 🚲 This Friday I'm spotlighting my article on Bolt, who commissioned kids to reimagine car dominated cities on old school playmats 🌍 Do you remember those mats that had a lil town printed on it? So #nostalgic right??? Well, often those cities depict loads of roads and parking spots - just your average (carbon filled) public spaces 🚗 Well, Bolt is trying to challenge the norm of traffic, smog and irritable locals by showing how these can be replaced with green spaces, public transit, and biking to promote healthier urban living and reduce #emissions 🌱 This appeals to the increasing desire for #greenspaces and #thirdspaces that appeal to human needs (rather than make space for more vehicles to dominate the roads) 🌆 What would your ideal city look like? 🌿 Check out Bolt's 'Little Big Think Tank' in the link below: https://lnkd.in/eKk2ahbc https://lnkd.in/eKFGfa6P
