It's official! The Trust for Civic Life has launched! An exciting day for folks building civic infrastructure, particularly in rural communities. From Hollie Russon Gilman, Ph.D.: The Trust is a new philanthropic collaborative and learning network with a simple mission: support local efforts that bring residents together to solve challenges they decide are most critical for their community to thrive. CDCs, or Community Development Corporations, have a rich history of addressing economic and social challenges in disinvested neighborhoods. Over time, these organizations have evolved from informal grassroots groups to highly structured nonprofits, gaining better access to funding and recognition. In some locations, access to funding and recognition has become tied to these organizations’ certifying as community development corporations (CDCs). Our 'shared table' PSA is designed to demonstrate how we can bridge across lines of difference to cultivate stronger, more connected communities Nearly three-quarters of Americans report feeling a lack of belonging in their local communities. This feeling of disconnection not only affects our personal well-being but also impacts workplace productivity and the strength of our democracy. It's clear that fostering a sense of belonging is not just important – it's essential. Our new creative partnership with the Team Up Project, led by founding partners Catholic Charities USA, Habitat for Humanity International, Interfaith America , and YMCA of the USA (National Resource Office), seeks to expand relationship-building activities and encourage connection in local communities through shared action. Through the Matching Fund model, also known as Pamoja4 Change, KCDF partners with communities through CBOs and CSOs to actualize their ideas for community development. Communities raise 50% of their project costs (in-cash or in-kind), while KCDF matches the other 50%, hence the name, Matching Fund.
