#Smartgrids are a key element of the energy transition! The ISGAN community, with the participation from the CEM Secretariat, gathered this week in #Utrecht, the #Netherlands, for the 26th ISGAN Executive Committee Meeting. It was a great opportunity to discuss the importance of smart grids in a decarbonized energy system and to brainstorm on ISGAN's work plan for the coming year, spanning from flexibility markets to institutional changes associated with smart grid deployment, from cost-benefit analysis and system-related challenges for power transmission and distribution to test labs through the Smart Grid International Research Facility Network (SIRFN). Special attention has also been paid on how to most effectively communicate with policy makers and other key stakeholders. Following a successful proposal to Ofgem’s Strategic Innovation Fund (SIF) panel of experts, we #HydroGenus are delighted to be working with NGT #NationalGasTransmission and other industry partners to deliver innovative projects to help cut carbon emissions as part of the UK’s drive towards Net Zero. The waste heat recovery project will help reduce carbon emissions in the current gas transmission system by leveraging heat from the compressors in the National Transmission System to improve the efficiency of hydrogen electrolysers and produce the hydrogen required to start making the transition from the use of natural gas to green hydrogen to power homes and industry across the UK. Helping to decarbonise the UK power system is a key component of reaching Net Zero by 2050 and HydroGenus are proud to be playing our part in this innovative and important project. #greenhydrogen #netzero #HydroGenus #nationalgastransmission

Great discussion on how important technologies like #CCU and #CCS are to achieving #REPowerEU goals and what it will take to move them forward.
🤔 What is the status of gas technologies such as #CCUS, #Pyrolysis and #BECCS in Europe? 💡 This year's European Gas Tech Conference was characterised by a range of perspectives and significant engagement on a variety of topics. Participants agreed that, though #CCU and #CCS have been previously explored, they currently require a renewed push. 🎤 The event, moderated by Sasha Twining and kindly supported by GE Power, was kicked off with an opening speech by Eurogas President Didier Holleaux, followed by two keynotes. MEP Tsvetelina Penkova highlighted the regulatory perspective on CCU and CCUS, particularly regarding the #NetZeroIndustryAct, while Jeroen Schuppers of DG Research and Innovation focused on the history and challenges of CCS technology. 🗣 These speeches gave way to the first panel which discussed the EU’s leadership in CCS and CCUS as well as the pace needed for meeting #REPowerEU objectives. The importance of these technologies for meeting climate goals was emphasised, as were the challenges and possible solutions to obtaining financial support and risk mitigation along the way. 🗣 The second panel explored the opportunities in Europe for potentially carbon-negative solutions such as BECCS. Participants discussed bridging the divide between technological progress and policy frameworks while improving expertise and infrastructure for quicker implementation of carbon management technologies.
