Medical Affairs Recruiter and Coach ✳️ PharmD ✳️ Former MSL ✳️ Helping you achieve excellence in your career AND your life
A hiring manager I talked to late yesterday afternoon was stressed! She is under pressure to fill 3 remaining MSL roles on her team BUT she also has a POA in early February and a Virtual Advisory Board in two weeks. If you are a hiring manager in January 2024, you can probably relate to her. Here are the main concerns she told me she has with MSL candidates: 1) Will the candidate be willing to travel (even though they say they are)? 2) Will the candidate TRULY connect with KOLs and share the "so what" and not just data dump? 3) Will they bring a balance to the team AND get along with the other team members? 4) Will they keep up with administrative tasks like expense reports so that they don't have to be 'nagged'? 5) Will they be able to meet the demands of their cross-functional partners? It's a lot. The Carolan Group understands these challenges. We connect hiring managers with the RIGHT talent so that they can build and maintain thriving teams (and ultimately help patients). If you are looking to hire the RIGHT people quickly, please send me a DM on LinkedIn or an email to sarah@carolangroup.com. You can share what you are looking for and your specific hiring situation via a short phone call. I HATE wasting time - let's get started! #pharma #pharmaceutical #pharmajobs #biotech #recruiter #pharmaceuticalindustry #medicalaffairs #medicalscienceliaison

Why Clinical Hiring Managers Ignore Your LinkedIn “About” Section, and How to Fix It! Recruiters and Hiring Managers sift through hundreds if not thousands of LinkedIn profiles every week. With each profile, they ask the same question: “Does this person have the experience I’m looking for?” What markers help them answer? Titles, tenures, companies, products, and responsibilities. Tangible and provable hard skills. So, why does your “About” section get ignored? Here's an insider secret: Self-stated soft skills do nothing to get you noticed. We've all seen it, the endless stream of "Highly motivated, self-driven, team player" descriptors. These are skimmed over more often than not. Might as well leave it blank! Fear not, however, for I have a short and effective template guaranteed to be more effective at catching the right eyes… "About Section Template" 1) Title and current focus: Start with your current role and specialization. “Peter is a Clinical Project Manager at Abbott Vascular currently focused on class III cardiovascular implant technology.” 2) Career highlights: Briefly mention your journey, emphasizing key achievements. “With over a decade of experience in pioneering early-stage clinical developments and enhancing trial management strategies…” 3) Professional Aspirations: Conclude with your career goals. “…he is now aiming to leverage his experience for a senior strategic role in the Clinical Medical Device sector.” While soft skills are extremely valuable, they should be reserved to shine in the interview process. Hard skills get you the interview, soft skills get you the job. What are your thoughts?? Drop your new and improved "About" section in the comments below, you never know who may see it!

Medical Affairs and Clinical Development Recruiter | 90% CV to interview ratio | Biotech, Pharma, and CROs | USA & Canada
The eternal dilemma in clinical development hiring persists: Specialty physician straight from academia or industry-experienced generalist? Companies are increasingly opting for board-eligible physicians for specialized roles, such as hiring an endocrinologist for a metabolic drug development program. This move offers a competitive advantage in specialized knowledge but raises critical considerations: - Is the candidate equipped to handle the fast-paced industry environment? - Can physicians accustomed to independence in private practice or academia thrive in a collaborative, managed setting? - Do you have the financial capacity to make a competitive offer compared to private practice earnings? - In case of project failure, can you sustain the specialist /does your therapeutic pipeline support retention? If any of these raise concerns, a generalist physician with extensive industry experience in the specific therapeutic area might be a viable alternative. These adaptable individuals bring valuable drug development insights and possess a continuous learning mindset. While there's no universal solution, my sentiment remains strong that generalist physicians play a crucial role in the industry. Embracing diverse perspectives and skill sets enriches the clinical development landscape. #ClinicalDevelopment #PhysicianHiring #Clinicaljobs #recruitment
