It is energizing to read the new article published in The Lancet on the future of the global clinical trial ecosystem, as discussed at the first World Health Organization Global Clinical Trials Forum: to secure the improvements needed to strengthen clinical trials, the Forum agreed on an unified vision of “always on, always busy”, whereby sustained national and global clinical trial capacity during and between crises ensures clinical research and trials are integrated and sustained in all health systems so that trials can help improve health outcomes for all, all the time. #First WHO Global Clinical Trials Forum puts forward a global vision for sustainable clinical research infrastructure #https://lnkd.in/eat-jKp5 #globalhealth #clinicaltrials

ESMO, together with healthcare stakeholders, calls for a European Health Data Space (EHDS) that boosts medical research and enhances digital health skills. The EHDS, if implemented harmoniously and supported by adequate policies, can boost the development of cancer treatments in Europe. Additionally, ESMO urges EU decision-makers to avoid opt-in systems for secondary health data use. Should an opt-out system be established - as a political compromise to secure the file’s adoption - then it should only be done as long as it does not lead to inconsistent implementation, increased health data disparities and excessive administrative burdens. 📢 New systematic review in BMC Medicine from NIHR Applied Research Collaboration Greater Manchester (ARC-GM) funded researchers, finds that when #virutalwards are compared with hospital-based inpatient care:   ▶ None of the technology-enabled care at home models explored appear to put people at higher risk of readmission. ▶ There appears to be no additional risk of mortality due to use of technology-enabled at home models, but evidence is limited. ▶ It is unclear whether inpatient-level care at home using high levels of technology provide additional benefits. ▶ The impact of inpatient-level care at home on length of stay is mixed so conclusions are difficult to make. ▶ Cost-effectiveness evidence is unavailable for high technology-enabled models, and there is only limited evidence for specific low technology-enabled model that is focused on people with COPD exacerbations.
