🔆First LinkedIn Post for 2025 – A Fresh Start and a Game Plan 🔆 It hasn’t been that long since my last post, but stepping into a new year always feels like a reset. And here we are – my first post of 2025! This year, I’m stepping into this space with new goals, fresh energy, and a lot of ideas to share. I’m all about helping people thrive in their careers – whether it’s landing that dream job, standing out in a noisy job market, or navigating career growth with confidence. One thing that’s been top of mind lately is how much technology has changed the job search game. We’re no longer just applying to jobs – we’re applying to algorithms. Gone are the days of walking into an office with a printed resume. Now, it’s about making sure your digital profile gets noticed by AI-driven systems before a human ever sees it. I’ve been diving deep into algorithmic matching – the AI that pairs your skills and experience with job openings. If you’re job hunting this year, understanding how to work with these algorithms would make a huge difference. Here’s what I’ve learned (and what I’ll be helping others focus on): 🔹 Use job description keywords – everywhere. Your resume and LinkedIn profile need to reflect the exact language in job posts. The right keywords make all the difference. 🔹 Keep LinkedIn updated (like, really updated). A half-filled profile isn’t going to catch the algorithm’s attention. Fill out everything – skills, certifications, and experiences. 🔹 Customize every application. It’s tempting to send the same resume everywhere, but small tweaks to reflect the job description help boost your chances. 🔹 Engage and stay visible. Commenting, sharing, and interacting on LinkedIn keeps your profile active. Engagement helps the algorithm notice you. 🔹 Highlight achievements, not just tasks. Quantify your wins. “Increased sales by 30%” will always stand out more than “Managed sales team.” ✨ This year, I’m leaning into AI, automation, and career growth strategies and I’m excited to share more insights, tips, and tools to help others succeed. Glassdoor, we need to talk… As a professional staying active in the job market, I rely on relevant job alerts to explore new opportunities. Glassdoor was a trusted resource, so I signed up, hoping it would help me find roles suited to my skills. But here’s the thing—despite setting up specific job alerts, I’ve received nearly 600 emails, Many of them unrelated to my skill set or not even on my alert list. It’s frustrating. I understand the intention to keep users engaged, but bombarding me with irrelevant emails has had the opposite effect. Instead of helping, these emails are pushing me towards the unsubscribe button. There’s a smarter way to keep users engaged—send fewer, more targeted emails that align with what I’m looking for.

What should you put on LinkedIn headline, banner, about us section and professional experience sections when you are UNEMPLOYED? When you’re unemployed or in between jobs, LinkedIn can be a powerful tool to showcase your professional persona. Here’s how to optimize different sections: Headline: Craft a headline that encapsulates your results, expertise and sectors. It could reflect your last held position or generic brand. For example, “International Growth Leader: Steadfastly #1 in Revenue, Profit, EBITDA, Market Share and Customer Acquisition across US, Europe, & APAC and within Telecom, SaaS, High-Tech Software, Technology and Retail Organizations”. Banner: The banner should visually echo your professional persona. Ensure it’s neat, business-like, and resonates with your field or abilities. About Us section: Make it interesting. This part should underline your career objectives, abilities, sterling results, leadership + character traits, and the pursuits you’re involved in during your job transition. You can include any independent work, community service, courses, or qualifications you’re acquiring. Professional Experience section: Despite being out of work, you can enumerate any pertinent projects, independent assignments, or volunteer positions you’re engaged in. Concentrate on the abilities and experiences acquired during these roles. Be honest - put all dates correctly. Remember, the emphasis should be on your abilities, experiences, achieved results, aspirations, and career goals rather than your job status. Keep networking and stay engaged on the platform for potential opportunities.

If I were looking for a new job, I’d start with Google, not Linkedin. Here’s why: Google pulls results from everywhere, not just one platform. LinkedIn is great, but it’s just one piece of the puzzle. Here’s what I’d do: Let’s say I’m looking for an Operations Manager role in Denver, CO. I’d: 1. Open Google. 2. Type: “Operations Manager jobs Denver, CO.” 3. Hit enter. What you’ll get: → Links to job boards (LinkedIn included). → Google’s job search tool, where you can filter for location, salary, and more. If I didn’t find what I needed, I’d mix it up: • Search “Top companies in [industry],” then check their career pages. • Try “Remote Operations Manager jobs” to find niche listings. • Look up “Companies similar to [one you admire]” and see what’s open. The reality is: Finding a job right now isn’t easy. There’s no magic platform that has everything. But you can set yourself apart by expanding where you look. Not every job is on LinkedIn. The more places you explore, the better your chances. One last thing: Don’t get caught up in LinkedIn’s “number of applicants” feature. It’s not accurate—it just tracks clicks. Instead, focus on jobs that have been posted recently and spend your time where it counts. The market might be tough, but the right strategy can make all the difference. #jobsearchtips #jobseekers

After almost two straight years of unemployment, I have to say, it’s been difficult. I’ve lost count on how many jobs I have applied for, and how many jobs I have lost the opportunity on because I didn’t know the right people, or because an internal candidate was the “better” choice because a company didn’t want to “waste” a week or two training me on their systems, despite telling me I was the best fit. It’s defeating. It has become increasingly difficult to keep going. To keep applying and keep hearing the same things from friends and former colleagues. “It’ll get better,” “the right thing will come,” “you didn’t want that job anyway,” and my personal favorite, “everything will be okay.” Everything is not okay, and it has not been okay for some time, and I cannot see into the future. Two years is a long time to try and stay optimistic, and keep your head up. I’m not trying to be negative. I’m being realistic. What I think most of us can agree on, though, is that LinkedIn is becoming useless. In the last two years alone, this platform has become virtually worthless and just as much of a social media cesspool as Facebook! What’s up with that? Feeds are filled with ads, and garbage posts from people who are not connected to my network at all whatsoever, about things that have nothing to do with anything of value. Most times I get a notification about a message in my inbox, it’s an ad, or some AI-generated person about a job opportunity that isn’t real. The increase in job scams on LinkedIn is downright embarrassing! This platform used to be vital in making connections and incredibly helpful in applying for jobs and getting said jobs. LinkedIn has helped me get jobs in the past. But now? LinkedIn is a joke. LinkedIn, despite my entered preferences, almost never gives me jobs to apply for in my area. I live in Austin, and I said my preferences are nearby (Austin metropolitan area) hybrid or remote positions. Why are all my results on-site positions in Nashville and New York? Why are the job titles positions that have nothing to do with my resume? Why is LinkedIn telling me to apply for engineering positions because “my experience fits this position?” I’m not an engineer, never have been, and I doubt I ever will be (unless I go back and do several years of schooling for it). A once incredibly useful platform has gone downhill and into the trash. I barely open it anymore because it’s just that. Trash. I figured I’d give it a shot today in case something changed, and yet again, no relevant job suggestions, and no posts of value on my feed from people I even know or should be trying to connect with. Why am I seeing a poll about “what color is the best to wear to your interview?” Is that what matters now? What *color clothes* you wear? I don’t think LinkedIn will ever go back to being the platform it once was, but I do hope this opens up an opportunity for someone else to create a platform that’s better. We all deserve better than this.
