Now is the time to trim trees, bushes, and tidy up plants around your home to create a “defensible space” around your property. As you begin spring clean-up, the Oregon Department of Forestry and Keep Oregon Green urge you to put some extra thought into how you plan to dispose of your yard debris. By taking that extra step, you can help prevent the next large wildfire.

Know that when you support Northeast Wilderness Trust you support owl cuddles!🦉❤️🦉 these barred owls were seen at📍 NEWT's Woodbury Mountain Wilderness Preserve in central Vermont. NEWT friend and volunteer @ericjperkins72 captured this clip of a Barred Owl pair practicing "allopreening," a behavior wherein birds groom each other. Barred owls often mate for life, breeding in the same nest year after year. 💡 These cameras are part of a study tracking how different species interact with varying sizes of coarse woody debris (CWD). Fallen trees, logs, and branches on the forest floor are all examples of CWD. This element of a healthy forest provides important habitat, shelter, and forage for many species, but some forestry practices remove CWD from the landscape. With rewilding, CWD accumulates and benefits countless of the Northeast's critters. #rewilding #northeast #wildlife #landconservation #vermont #woodlands #foreverwild #gamecams

Have you ever wondered who is responsible for debris cleanup after tree maintenance? Well, it depends! If we're in your area doing planned tree maintenance to improve reliability, we'll handle the clean up. There are some other situations when the homeowner is responsible for tree cleanup, including: ⚠️ After emergency service restoration ⛈️ After weather-related restoration 🪵 After tree maintenance you requested The process begins when a forestry planner marks what needs to be trimmed. "After decades of forest mismanagement that created an era of megafires, there’s a critical shortage in quality seed stock, trained personnel, storage & growing space for tiny seedlings." Which is why the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE)'s "Reforestation Center is taking on new urgency. It stores over 42,000 pounds of pristine seed collected from the state’s native conifers, from coastal redwoods to alpine firs. An adjacent facility holds young oaks & other hardwood species. The center’s goal is to help private landowners restore their charred landscapes — rebuilding forests too badly burned to regrow naturally." - The Mercury News This seed repository is the future of California. Big shout out to CAL FIRE for doing such important work supporting Californians & their forestlands. What have we learned from post-fire restoration projects? … Small private landowners often lack the funding, expertise, or time to undertake restoration work. To address these barriers, California’s Wildfire and Forest Resilience Action Plan called for the establishment of Emergency Forest Restoration Teams (EFRTs). In June, a report was released on lessons learned from three pilot EFRTs that provides key recommendations for future EFRTs to be successful. … Learn more and read the report. >> https://lnkd.in/gj8-TZ83 … USDA Forest Service California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) UCANR … #WildfireTaskForce #TaskForceProgress #ResilientForests
