Video of a foiling sailboat zipping by... and then the mast fails about 5 meters above the deck. Unusual for the consequences of quality problems to show up when a camera is running. https://lnkd.in/gn59yMNX

Hi Everybody? Anyone wonder why you feel a bit of water in your car 🤷🏻♂️ or smell👃wet mildew and dampness occasionally? DRAIN HOLES… Who knew? I have owned a lot of cars but I never knew anything about this? 🤷🏼♀️ I researched more for all of us and apparently this is definitely a thing that does happen… The answers to where you need to look for your Drain Holes should be partly in your owners manual or online. Also listed below ⬇️ Per Mr. AI water can be found: *Around the sunroof *At the bottom of doors *Along the cowl *In the trunk *Rear cargo area *Cargo bed for pickups *Near the shock towers *Windshield washer motor *Behind the taillights ===================== **Cowl can refer to a protective cover for the engine of a vehicle, aircraft, or spacecraft. Cowls can also be used to minimize the effects of glare

Thanks followers and investors for the great questions. Let's answer one we received a few times to date. Q: "Will Trident LS-1 be able to go off-road in say loose sand to get to the water off a beach?" A: AWD and up to 12" ride height clearance will allow limited off-road travel, for beach access to water through medium to hard pack sand. Very loose sand may be an issue depending on the tires selected. Trident LS-1 with reverse trike (2 wheels in front, one wider one in rear) AWD is not being designed for "aggressive off-road travel". (sketch below shows the 3 default ride height positions - user adjustable in between these 3 positions may be possible as well) #TridentLS1 #EVs #electricvehicles #electrichydrofoils #electricboats

Do you know what the Manual/GPS/Attitude switch on a drone is for? Neither did we until recently. Heads up, it is basically impossible to fly an octocopter in manual mode. Fortunately, that dumpster was in the way of it going anywhere. This is the next video in the THz Takes Flight project. Unfortunately, in this video there isn't much flight. Fortunately, there isn't a THz spectrometer either.

How does a sailboat winch work? A winch uses the principles of torque and tension to apply a force: a sheet (line or rope) is wound round the winch drum, then is secured to prevent from coming loose. A hand crank is inserted into place at top, then the user rotates the crank in clockwise or counterclockwise direction to pull in the line. Sounds simple, right? The machine that makes this magic is anything but. Here's a view of what's inside a smaller winch from a 1981 Catalina 22 sailboat. 📸 @Stingy Sailor #sailboatparts #winch #sailboatboat #mechanicsofsailing #maintenance

Rode the Dragon last week... don't miss 28 to get there! Much better because they're working on the Dragon - repaving. Be careful of slick roads from the fresh tar! In this pic, we were probably doing under 20mph! LOL. Never saw the scenery before! Have you? Last Sunday I had something of a Wright Brother's moment with my fishBOAT project. In the past, Prof. Derek Paley (Univ. of Maryland) and I have made robotic fish that drive themselves with reaction wheels. I call these "Phish" and the reaction wheel system a "torque reaction engine". UNTIL LAST SUNDAY, no one had ever demonstrated a Phish that uses its battery pack as part of the inertial mass of the torque reaction engine. Last Sunday was my small "Wright Brothers" moment, to demonstrate a Phish that uses its battery pack in a torque reaction engine. This particular demonstration had a lot of issues. It was in a hot tub, so the Phish didn't have a long way to swim. I also was nervous about overheating the motor, so I didn't operate it for very long. Nonetheless, you can tell, just by looking at it, that the system wasn't using much power. Next week, I'll test this Phish in the municipal pool on Bainbridge Island and give it a longer swim. I'll also be able to show it at the surface, at the bottom, and I'll reverse the fins and expect it will go "backward". The motor in this particular Phish is only about 1/10th as powerful as I thought it was on paper, so Kirk O'Donnell (https://lnkd.in/giSeEUPF) and I are rebuilding the guts of this Phish around two much more powerful, heat tolerant, low speed, high torque motors that fit very well inside this existing setup. Why is this important? I am fond to say, "parts are bad", especially under water. The subsea design space is so constrained that if Phish are to be efficient, compete with propeller-driven devices like the REMUS, have a wide range of morphologies, and operate from the top to the bottom of the water column (right down to the ocean floor), Phish HAVE TO combine the battery pack into the inertial mass in the torque reaction engine. This was a first demonstration of what may be an efficient, quiet, and biomimetic way to navigate the subsea environment. Phish built around this system may be able to scale to very large size, be able to operate on missions of a week or longer, and be able to generate fish-safe power in rivers. Phish may even be able to generate power bobbing at the surface, which might make possible a Phish that could recharge itself at the surface and dive to perform multiple subsea missions. If anyone has a connection with James Cameron, Walt Conti, John Downer Productions, the Schmidt Ocean Institute, anyone at HII (who make the REMUS), Kongsberg, others who perform subsea surveys, or others who may be interested in a radically simplified biomimetic drivetrain for robotic fish, please send this post their way or let me know! Very accomplished academic researchers at the University of Washington and the University of Maryland are interested in doing graduate level research on this design. I am trying to arrange funding for such research. Thanks for your time and consideration!
