Did you know that applying for the largest scholarship out there is not the easiest or smartest way to get aid for school? Large corporations offering scholarships are flooded with individuals seeking scholarships that shell out big money, while many smaller, more local scholarships are often overlooked. If you start early and spend time researching places in your own backyard, like your local community foundations, you can often find scholarships available that will help begin closing the gaps. https://lnkd.in/grvPPDtX

United students learn quickly that effective congregational ministry, leadership, advocacy, and art is rarely a one-person job. As any organizer or activist will tell you, collaboration is at the heart of meaningful justice work. Peace is a multi-party affair. Just as a professor might task students with a group project, our alums are tasked with pursuing their distinct vocational paths as collaborators—co-conspirators in the transformative effort toward justice and peace. From fellow alums to members of our faculty, administrators, ministers, staff, and trustees, there is no shortage of voices in our over six decades of history calling for a transformed society. In the spirit of collaboration and our shared pursuit of the greater good, this year, we are honoring "Many Voices United for Justice and Peace." Whose voice has transformed you, your congregation, or your community? Whose voice has stirred your convictions and encouraged you to take action? Whose voice has given you a new perspective or changed your mind? Whose voice has comforted or guided you? Whose voice has affirmed your calling? As names come to mind, we invite you to give in their honor or memory. Through June 30, a generous alum will be matching all gifts up to $25,000. Any gift you make to the United Fund will have double the impact, ensuring United’s future is bright and secure. Visit https://buff.ly/3QSG01S to double your gift today.

Shoutout Wieden + Kennedy for using their resources/platform to speak truth into the world and bring awareness to such an important issue - censorship & an outright agenda to erase our history. It’s powerful to be on the frontlines of activist advertising. We need more reputable brands to engage in freedom fighting and civil leadership. To stand up for what is right. WK leading the way as always!! Epitome of a brand led by strong values and principles ✊🏼📈🔥#AdMagicClassOf2023 #AdMagicAlumni
Book bans in American public schools are on the rise, increasing by 33% over the 2022-23 school year compared with the previous year, according to nonprofit PEN America. And diversity, equity and inclusion education is under attack—just last month in Florida, the Board of Governors banned public funding of DEI programs across state universities. A new campaign from agency Wieden + Kennedy+Kennedy New York and COURAGEOUS CONVERSATION GLOBAL FOUNDATION highlights the dangers of such bans and censorship, particularly to marginalized communities. “America Erased” aims to spark a movement defending students’ freedom to learn about their country’s complete history. https://adweek.it/3T6japE

A common question I get from friends an allies leading up to Orange Shirt Day is if there is anything more they can do instead of/in conjunction to wearing an Orange Shirt. This year I am suggesting attending these daily lunch & learns next week: https://lnkd.in/gctrw_UF Monday - Health related impacts of the residential school system. Tuesday - Allyship and confronting unconscious bias. Wednesday - Impacts and addressing Indigenous identity fraud. Thursday - A community perspective of United Nations Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Friday - How do we address the barriers to reconciliation? Don't have time but have money? Donate towards a memorial for Survivors and those that did not make it home from Alberni Indian Residential School (the one my grandfather was forced to attend): https://lnkd.in/g7UMnqns And lastly - don't use the day as a personal vacation day. Go to a community event for orange shirt Day, watch a movie or documentary about residential schools as a family, or at least have a meaningful conversation about it. Wear the orange shirt! For those in the Vancouver area: https://lnkd.in/g_rKiVue Residential School Denialism is on the rise and very harmful to Indigenous people. The more you educate yourself and those around you, the more space us Indigenous folks have to heal.
