Guess you’ve seen us use the word “termination” a lot when discussing cover crops. Today, we want to explain to you what that word means. Cover crop termination is the practice of ending the growth of a cover crop so that it doesn't interfere with the planting of the next cash crop. There are several methods of terminating cover crops including roller crimping, use of herbicides, mowing, among others. Interested in seeing how roller crimping is done? Excellent summary of a seminar series on “(Re)Considering Planted Forests for the 21st Century,” which was hosted by The Forest School at the Yale School of the Environment and The Forests Dialogue in fall 2022. The series featured a wide range of experts, including our CSO Mark Wishnie who spoke about new opportunities for linking investment in commercial forestry with forest restoration (pp. 30-33). The series also included talks from speakers across academia, conservation nonprofits, the forest products industry, and Indigenous and forest-based communities, sharing various perspectives on the future of planted forests. It is well worth a read!

This week I was privileged to accompany H.E the Ambassador of Costa Rica in Kenya, Giovanna Valverde Stark to a bilateral meeting with the CEO of the World Forestry (CIFOR-ICRAF) , Dr. Eliane Ubalijoro at the CIFOR-ICRAF headquarters in Nairobi. One of the key outcomes of the discussions between the two leaders was the indispensable role of #YoungPeople in the development of #ClimateResilienceTools from the leadership, research, training and implementation perspectives. Acknowledging the fact that #ClimateChange will shape the future of the world, the place of the young is in the front . This will prepare the #YoungGeneration for possible more ravaging #ClimateImpacts going into the future. #NGINeer #ElevatingTheYoung #BuildingResilience
