Clean Energy Ventures closes a second oversubscribed fund at $305 million Clean Energy Ventures (#CEV), a #VC firm specializing in early-stage climate tech, has closed its oversubscribed Fund II with $305 million in commitments. Founded by Temple Fennell, Daniel Goldman, and David Miller, CEV focuses on technologies that can mitigate at least 2.5 gigatons of CO2 emissions by 2050. This new fund supports CEV's expansion into Europe and Israel, enhancing its reach beyond North America. Key backers include Carbon Equity, The Grantham Foundation for the Protection of the Environment, Builders Vision, and New Summit Investments. CEV has already invested in companies like Noon Energy, Evari, NitroFix, and OXCCU TECH LTD, aiming to scale innovative decarbonization technologies. With a team deeply rooted in science and engineering, CEV combines financial performance with significant climate impact, positioning itself as a leader in the global climate tech ecosystem. Thankfully advocates like Gabrielle Jorgensen are pushing policymakers to enact sensible and much needed permitting reform https://lnkd.in/eMJcwR46 And innovative startups like Pearl Street Technologies, VEIR, Nira Energy and so many others aren't waiting, but instead are offering a growing diversity of technology solutions to help navigate and mitigate the challenges of grid connectivity. Fun Fact time! 🎉 We're very excited to see our friends in #DAC make major progress lately. Why is CarbonBuilt so supportive of DAC, you may ask? Are we simply #ClimateTech friends? 🤔 Well, yes. ✅ But, wait, there's more. DAC needs to come down the cost curve, like any emerging technology. That happens with experience. According to Boston Consulting Group (BCG), “The characteristic [cost] decline is consistently 20-30% each time accumulated production is doubled. This decline goes on in time without limit (in constant dollars) regardless of the rate of growth of experience.” Sounds familar, right? This is Tech 101. Today's DAC systems have a "Last Mile" challenge. They capture CO2, and yet there are few places to put it. Geologic sequestration isn't widely available. Concrete allows for CO2 utilization and sequestration (#CCUS), preventing captured carbon from being vented back into the atmosphere. And if it all lines up, the carbon markets or government incentives can be applied to pay for that above-ground concrete sequestration. It's one way the tools of #climatefinance can help to keep the flywheel of innovation spinning. So now you know. 🧠 It's an emerging closed-loop system that can help hasten #CDR pace. In today's episode of Superpowers for Good, I had the pleasure of welcoming back Dr. Daniel Farb, CEO and Founder of FLOWER TURBINES Inc. It's been over five years since our last conversation, and the progress Daniel has made with his company is nothing short of remarkable.
