HR professionals from across metro Atlanta gathered for the SOAHR 2024 conference, a compelling event focused on enhancing our workplaces and developing our workforces. The two-day conference was filled with invaluable sessions led by thought leaders and HR experts. It was exciting to re-engage and learn alongside my peers, exploring effective strategies to meet current challenges and excel in the future. A special highlight for me was reconnecting with Carol McDaniel, a former colleague from Delta Air Lines. Carol led a session titled "Re-Imagining Your Talent Acquisition Strategy." Raise your hand if your company has introduced an [Employee Net Promoter Score [eNPS]? If so, what’s the frequency and what trends are surfacing? I also want to extend my gratitude to Andre Dickens [Atlanta Mayor], who closed the program with an empowering message about making Atlanta a city of opportunity. His acknowledgment of SHRM-ATL’s efforts in professional development highlights the profound impact our community has on local businesses and employers. Finally, participating with RISE Against Hunger to package meals was an enriching experience that allowed us to make a direct impact on the lives of many children. We hear a lot about employee burnout. In a recent SHRM article, a reported 57% of employees are experiencing at least moderate burnout. However, did you know that 98% of HR professionals are burned out? As HR professionals, we recognize employee burnout by implementing initiatives to combat the problem. But how often do we recognize and practice our own self-care? I read somewhere once that as HR people we need to put on our own oxygen mask before we can help others. Is there something you do for your own self-care? One great thing I do for myself is to connect with fellow HR people and use them as a support group! There are a lot of challenges out there in the HR world and there is always someone in my circle who has either experienced the same thing or a great tip to share! Our local SHRM chapter - NAHRA - meets every third Thursday of the month and has some very knowledgeable and compassionate members!
