May was filled with celebration, learning, and momentum for the Partnership for RI. At the end of the month, we celebrated the second anniversary of Compete RI and the $17 million PROTECT Grant awarded to restore Mt. Hope Bridge alongside Senator Jack Reed, Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, Rep. Gabe Amo, Governor Dan McKee, and Lori Caron Silveira. I was also honored to be invited to speak on behalf of the Partnership for RI at two events in May. At the National Talent Collaborative Gathering in New York City, I discussed how the Partnership for RI uses employer signaling systems to better understand employer needs so states can prepare a workforce ready to meet employer needs. At the HolonIQ 2024 Global Impact Summit, I spoke about why initiatives like Compete RI can be the difference maker in states getting federal funding for much-needed projects. It was inspiring to speak alongside leaders who have worked with Compete RI to start similar initiatives in their states and hear about the positive impact these initiatives have already made. As we celebrate the second anniversary of Compete RI, an initiative made possible by the Partnership for Rhode Island, I am reminded why it is so crucial for business leaders to come together to support continued economic growth throughout Rhode Island. - Tom Giordano, Partnership for Rhode Island Executive Director

📣 This week, we are featuring one of COAST's founding members and COAST Board President, Dr. Megan Oudekerk, PsyD, LMFT, RPT-S. We asked Dr. Oudekerk about what made her join COAST, her vision of COAST's larger mission, and what she hopes other MFTs will find by joining COAST. If her thoughts resonate with you, join COAST: https://lnkd.in/gBzCyeWc 1. What made you become a founding member of COAST? 🌟 [Dr. Oudekerk] I was fortunate enough to be a part of a group of systemic leaders who saw a need to connect with other associations to discuss the future of the MFT profession. We were able to collaborate and share some ideas that pushed us forward in creating an association that supports systemic therapists and the valuable work being done. Being a founder member allows me an opportunity to support the mission of COAST. 2. Describe COAST's mission in a way that feels meaningful to you. 🌟 [Dr. Oudekerk] The mission of COAST is meaningful because I feel that systemic therapy is very crucial in helping individuals and families everywhere. When an association can support the systemic work as well as the systemic providers and educators, then it also creates more longevity in the field. 3. What would you like future COAST members to find in COAST? 🌟 [Dr. Oudekerk] I would like them to find a home that is accepting and supportive of their professional path. 4. What's one good reason more MFTs should consider joining COAST? 🌟 [Dr. Oudekerk] Being a part of a national association helps us to form a professional identity, creates opportunities for service and leadership, and it also provides the much-needed systemic training that we need to continue to stay relevant on the issues we face as systemic therapists. #mft #systemictraining #systemictherapy

At our annual members meeting yesterday (https://lnkd.in/gduHqYZS), we shared about the exciting growth of Technologists for the Public Good. What started as a grassroots professional association has grown to a member base of more than 1,700 technologists. We’ve supported dozens of members through our mentorship program, and hundreds through our resume review program. As we continue to grow our membership and expand our programming, we have two exciting announcements to share. First, we are looking for two new public interest technology leaders to join our #Board of Directors. We’re particularly seeking diverse and experienced leaders that are aligned with our mission to power the people who are reimagining how the government serves the public. We want people who are enthusiastic about building and supporting this organization and the community. More information is available at publicgood.tech/join-board Second, we’re excited to share that starting October 1 we’re switching to a dues-based membership model. This membership model will enable us to provide expanded value to our members, be responsible stewards of our members' trust, and build long-term stability for this community. Our goal is to provide more valuable services to our members so that you can become more productive and grow in the profession – ultimately leading to better public services for the people. The standard membership dues will be $150 annually, with discounted and organizational options available. We are committed to providing member benefits to as many people as possible. No one will be excluded from membership based solely on the inability to pay dues. More information on this shift is available at https://lnkd.in/g3wT3-ee

e.l.f. stands for every eye, lip, and face, even in America’s corporate boardrooms. E.L.F. BEAUTY is only one of four companies who have a board of directors that is two-thirds women and one-third diverse. We think it’s about e.l.f.ing time to “Change the Board Game.” A diverse board not only ensures companies reflect the diverse communities they serve, but it’s also a proven metric to increase the bottom line. And what company doesn’t want more profit? We are taking action to “Change the Board Game,” and helping women and diverse candidates take a rightful seat at the table. We’re kicking things off teaming up with the NACD (National Association of Corporate Directors) and sponsoring 20 brilliantly talented and diverse candidates to enter their “Accelerate Program,” designed to give board-ready candidates the connections, networks, know-how and opportunity they need to join corporate boards across the country. And we’re not stopping there. Stay tuned for big things to come. Tag someone you think is board-ready in the comments (tag yourself if that “someone” is you!), and let’s change the board game together.

The DEFY Conference understood the Diversity and Inclusion assignment. Very few conferences do. I had the chance to speak at and attend my first DEFY conference last week in Montreal. This year, it was a partnership between CAMSC, Canada's 2SLGBTQI+ Chamber of Commerce (CGLCC), WEConnect International and Inclusive Workplace and Supply Council of Canada (IWSCC) - four supplier councils bringing together entrepreneurs that were Indigenous and minority owned, 2SLGBTQI+-owned, women-owned, and veteran- and disabled-people owned. It was the first time all groups came together to talk to corporations and organizations looking to diversify their suppliers. The energy and buzz was palpable, the conversations were on fire, and the people connected with me in a way that I have never experienced as we shared our vulnerability, success, and dreams for the future. The number of times speakers got on stage and said that they were so pleased to see an audience that truly looked like Canada was amazing. It's not unusual to be one of a few people of colour at a conference, and I attend HR and Internal Communication conferences....you know, the professions who are supposed to represent employees. They are rarely representative. It made me wonder out loud why our profession does not create space for those who are different. It may explain why we've been complaining about the same issues for years with little movement. My favourite line from Dr. Fred McKinney on the panel that I was a part of: If you're against equity, then what are you actually standing for? Inequity? If you're against diversity, then what are you standing for? Homogeneity? If you're against inclusion, then are you for exclusion? Pay attention at future conferences folks. Do the people in the room represent your colleagues, customers or community or is it more of the same, and ask yourself what you are losing as a result. Also pay attention to who you hire to help. Is it more of the same and what perspectives are missing? As Maya Angelou says, "When we know better, we must do better."

Thanks for sharing this insightful article, Peggy Hoffman, FASAE, CAE . It is hard to let go of what we have always done, but if we want to remain relevant, we need to turn the page and ask our multi-generational audiences what they want.
The rules of engagement have changed - that is the rules members are living by when it comes to their associations. Thoughtful piece from Associations Now https://lnkd.in/egypvmq6?
