With two years of Interact's Media Prefs data in hand, Eric Jacobson, Public Affairs Specialist at Western Technical College, says his college has a new long-term goal: increasing the number of students of color who complete the survey. The college's new multicultural center, The SPACE, will help: “We want to work with The SPACE to promote the survey more and get more data,” says Jacobson. “The reason we have The SPACE at this new location on campus is to do better outreach. ... We want that data to help us figure out how diverse students want to interact with us.” Ultimately, Jacobson knows collecting more diverse student feedback will help bolster enrollment. The Rush-Henrietta Board of Education approved four district goals at its regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday, January 23. The goals are the result of a community-wide survey; six focus groups; student data including demographics, behavior, proficiency and graduation; and two in-person workshops to review all of this information. The four goals are: ·  Excellence for Every Student: R-H will sustain and further develop its culture of academic distinction by championing the potential within every student.  ·  Preparing Students for the Pathways to Tomorrow: R-H will be a driving force for workforce development and a cornerstone for community growth.  ·  Foundation to Flourish for All Students: R-H will cultivate a vibrant educational landscape where every student's engagement is ignited and positive behavior is naturally fostered.  ·   Cohesive and Inclusive Community and Culture: R-H is dedicated to fostering a cohesive and welcoming community, where open communication serves as the foundation for unity.  Thank you to everyone who shared feedback during the past few months to help us create these four important goals. New research on affirmative action. In this article I uncover that underrepresented minority student enrollment grew at for-profits after state-level affirmative action bans. The article is 17 pages long, but there are 23 pages of supplemental material here that mater to 1) users of diff and diff (methodology) and 2) those interested longitudinal patterns of enrollments- particularly for-profits. https://lnkd.in/gFxDuMXf Please share widely. As colleges are beginning to adjust to the new admissions reality imposed by the Supreme Court this research offers a glimpse into what the future of access to postsecondary education could look like.

Here is a look at some more common ideas offered up with the latest evidence on whether the measures can maintain enrollment rates among students from underrepresented backgrounds.

Checklist for December: 1. Assess your focus on educational equity and closing opportunity gaps for underserved and underrepresented students. What progress have you made this fall? What needs your immediate attention? 2. Determine how you are measuring post-secondary outcomes for all students. What data are you missing? How will you gather and assess? 3. Review how you identify students for advanced coursework ahead of 24-25 course selection. What barriers still exist for students? What student-centered insights do you need to close your opportunity gaps? 4. Apply for the Equal Opportunity Schools complimentary Opportunity Gap Analysis

Challenges in Recruiting As seen in Hunt Scanlon Media's recently released 2023 Higher Education Recruiting Report, in today’s rapidly evolving landscape, colleges and universities are grappling with a complex set of challenges. According to Susan VanGilder, co-practice leader and managing director, education, Storbeck Search | Diversified Search Group, “These issues stem from the intersection of changing demographics, increased societal expectations, economic pressures, and shifting pedagogical goals.
