150-ton lift capacity crane barge lifts a section of the Francis Scott Key Bridge the Ferrell, a 200-ton lift capacity revolving crane barge, and the Oyster Bay as part of ongoing effort to reopen the federal channel, April 16, 2024. The barges will be used by the Navy’s Supervisor of Salvage and Diving (SUPSALV) to remove submerged portions of the Francis Scott Key Bridge. The Key Bridge Response 2024 Unified Command priorities are to ensure the safety of the public and first responders, account for missing persons, safely restore transportation infrastructure and commerce, protect the environment, and support the investigation of the incident. 🌊 Maritime Update 🚢⚠️ 🔍 **Storm Oliver (Bettina) Strikes:** In a harrowing incident on November 26, 2023, Storm Oliver (Bettina) wreaked havoc in the Adriatic Sea, setting its sights on Greece. Reports indicate one ship sunk, and three vessels grounded. Tragically, 12 seafarers are still missing from the sunken ship. 🆘 **Vessel Raptor Incident:** The Comoros-flagged ship Raptor, laden with salt, sank off Lesbos, Greece. Amid gale force winds, the Greek coastguard, along with five cargo ships, three coast guard vessels, and air force and navy assets, initiated a search. Tragically, one person lost their life, and 12 seafarers are still missing. 🚢 **Groundings in Turkey:** 1. **Vamos:** The general cargo ship Vamos broke moorings at Inebolu port, Turkey, drifting ashore in Filli Kosk. Thankfully, all 11 crew members were safely rescued. 2. **FR Pearl:** The general cargo ship FR Pearl beached after dragging anchor at Hopa, Turkey. All 13 crew members were successfully evacuated, and the ship remains beached. 3. **Blue Shark:** Storm-induced grounding forced the Belize-flagged dry cargo ship Blue Shark aground near Anapa, Russia. Miraculously, all 21 crew members, hailing from Syria, India, and Egypt, are uninjured. Watch this video to see two new state-of-the-art firefighting response vessels designed by Incat Crowther in operation for the Port Authority of New South Wales. The vessels, named Burra and Girawaa, are designed to play a pivotal role in major on-water incidents, including firefighting operations. Burra and Girawaa have the ability to pump 16,000 litres of sea water per minute – equivalent to the capacity of four large fire engines. Capable of travelling in shallow water, the vessels can travel at speeds of up to 27 knots and have the ability to turn 365 degrees in 60 metres, while travelling at 20 knots.
