Meet Dr Chiara Board, founder, sufferer and scientist. We asked why she felt we needed a new solution... "Like so many of us, I have suffered for years with bladder problems and discomfort, and literally have tried EVERYTHING! I felt anxious and stressed and was so frustrated with lack of solutions available, and how it impacted my life, relationships, and wanted to use my science background to better serve women. After completing my PhD in synthetic biology, engineering Imperial College London, my team and I worked hard to bring a new solution to the market. A solution that would offer women like me choice, comfort, and better control of their intimate health so we can be able to enjoy a happier life. While we are also trying to better understand the female microbiome with our studies. After years of research, we are finally here - but there is still a lot to do. Together, let's turn our frustration to innovation, support, and progress for women's health💛." #womeninstem #stem #womenshealth #femalefounder #menopause #perimenopause #menopausesupport #microbiome #sexualhealth #bladderhealth #intimatehealth #intimatecare #innovation #biotech #phappi

Please take a moment to look at this graph. It crucially shows how many women’s health conditions that cause years of suffering are woefully underfunded. Part of the problem is that many of these issues have stigma attached and aren’t talked about enough. We want to be part of the solution - empowering women to understand their own bodies, to stand up and be heard, and we pledge to contribute to important research into women’s health conditions. #womenshealth #gynaecology #endometriosis #endometriosisawareness #fertility #reproductivemedicine #menopause
Women's health research focuses far more on diseases that kill rather than those that lead to an impaired life. 😢The conditions that affect womens' quality-of-life actually affect a significant number of women, affecting 10-100% of women. They also tend to be gynecological issues that have been traditionally swept under the rug. "The solution is not to trim cancer funding, but to recognize the possibilities for advances in research related to other women’s health conditions—in particular, menopause, premenstrual syndrome, endometriosis, and polycystic ovary syndrome." 🙅🏻♀️At Xena Dx (Techstars '23), we're challenging this status quo. We recognize that many of these conditions predominantly affect women during their most productive years. 🚀 Our mission is to bring these issues to the forefront, dedicating our research and technology to improve not just longevity but also the quality of women's lives. 🌟 On this #InternationalWomensDay, PhenomX Health celebrates diversity and inclusivity. 🌸 🌸 🌸 Today, we shine a light on a major challenge in women's health: the underrepresentation of women in clinical trials and studies on menopause. This gap leads to a lack of understanding of women's specific needs, especially during this crucial transition period in their lives. Black, Asian, and women of color are even more affected by this underrepresentation, resulting in unacceptable disparities in access to healthcare and medical treatment. At PhenomX Health, we are committed to changing this reality by promoting diversity in medical research and ensuring that every woman, regardless of her skin color, receives fair and tailored healthcare to her needs. We are proud to introduce an application designed to meet the individual needs of each user. Our approach stands out by allowing everyone to track their symptoms in a personalized way, respecting their uniqueness. No more "one-size-fits-all" approaches! With PhenomX Health, we prioritize personalized healthcare for everyone. Together, let's work towards creating a future where every woman is fully represented in medical research, where her needs are understood and respected. Recent tailwinds are shifting the way we think about women's health! The McKinsey Health Institute highlighted that women spend 25% more of their lives in poor health compared to men. Additionally, President Biden has allocated $200 million towards better understanding women's health issues. As a female entrepreneur, I believe it's crucial to address the gap in women's health. Let's work together towards promoting women's health and well-being. #WomensHealth #FemaleEntrepreneur #HealthEquity
While #WomensHistoryMonth may have wrapped up, our dedication to advancing women's health through innovation and research never stops. That’s why we applauded President Biden's recent executive order prioritizing research in women's health, as highlighted in The New York Times. The President acknowledged that improving women's health is crucial to a stable economy, and we couldn’t agree more. At Nalu Bio, we’re addressing the women’s wellness gap with no-high, chemistry-derived cannabinoid products tailored for both CPG and pharmaceutical applications, aiming to improve women’s health outcomes. We’re thrilled that federal funds are now directed toward researching health conditions that disproportionately impact women, like heart disease, Alzheimer’s menopause, and fibroids. Founder & CEO The 6AM Agency Global Business Growth Strategist - Evidence-based Wellbeing. Recipient inaugural Women In Nutraceuticals Heroine Award 2024 Passionate about real impact for people & planet
As women we rightfully assume that as much research has been conducted on menopausal and post-menopausal women as men living through andropause, but in fact there is a gap in the science of ageing women, leading to a gap in understanding of how to manage ageing related health and disease states in women. Even when it comes to animal studies, this article reveals that menopause is not consistent or even pronounced in animals that are studied, such as female rodents, who unlike humans, 'do not always have a persistent menopause phase. For many rodents, their hormone levels stay constant or increase even into older age.' 'Literature has found that only humans and some types of whales spend a good amount of their life span post-menopause.' The need to reimagine studies that impact menopausal women, and women in general - that affect disease diagnoses as well as the formulation of female-specific products, is essential, at pace in order to give women an equal chance of healthy ageing. The role of Women in Science who are able to accelerate the levelling of the playing fields from the number of women in research cohorts, to women championing the science of female-focused products is critical. That's why it is heard to be said that Women In Science is one of the top most in-demand and hottest career choices this decade. Women are underrepresented in scientific research with significant impacts on women’s health. “Our healthcare system lacks data on how to treat age-related diseases in females,” said Fabrisia Ambrosio PhD, director of the Musculoskeletal Recovery Center at Spaulding Communications. Dr. Ambrosio discusses the effects of this gap on menopausal health in this article from Harvard Medical School, by author Jennifer Walsh. At Women In Nutraceuticals one of our fundamental goals is to grow the number of women in science and research. A $1 trillion opportunity to improve lives and economies - closing the women's health gap. Menopause is the #1 condition that could unlock ~$120 billion in GDP, and that's excluding peri- and postmenopausal women. It's research like this - conducted by McKinsey Health Institute in collaboration with the World Economic Forum (link to research in comments) - that highlights the need for advances in research and funding related to women’s health conditions. There is an enormous opportunity for innovation here, to develop solutions to genuinely improve quality of life for 50% of the population. We might be up to something behind the scenes at Valerie... 👀 I want to use this opportunity to shoutout and congratulate the amazing work by Heather Jackson Sam Simister Julian Kynaston and team at GenM Official who continue to drive awareness, destigmatize and squash taboos associated with women's hormonal health. Huge wins and milestones achieved with Tesco and press in recent weeks 👏 #menopauseawareness

RACIAL BIAS IN MENOPAUSE....? The average age of menopause is 51. That statistic is spoken as though it is fact, pretty much everywhere. Which isn’t exactly true. Well ok, it is but only if you are white. For black women it’s actually 49, Malaysian women 48 and Indian women it is 46. So if the age ranges vary, what about the symptoms, do they vary too? The short answer is yes. According to the SWAN study: 👉 Black women experience a longer duration of the menopause transition many for 10 years or more 👉 Their sleep is more impacted with more frequent awakenings 👉 Mental health issues maybe more prominent 👉 They have the highest prevalence and intensity of night sweats and hot flushes Not only does menopause start earlier, it can last longer and symptoms can be more challenging. On top of that black women are 3 x more likely to experience premature menopause, leaving them at increased risk of health issues like heart disease and osteoporosis if not offered the right treatment. According to Alliance Chicago and health choice network out of 27,000 women aged 45+ diagnosed with menopause only 1900 of them were offered hormone therapy, only 20% were black. So they are also much less likely to leave a GP appointment with HRT. What might be some of the reasons behind these differences in menopause experiences? Well, there is a real lack of research in this area, “This link has yet to be definitively proven, notes study coauthor and SWAN investigator Tené T. Lewis, PhD, but “we know that stress matters. Tené goes on to say “Systemic racism, including poorer access to healthcare, toxic work environments...and more, can weather the body, over-taxing various hormonal and biological processes and fuelling chronic inflammation. This can lead to long-lasting health ramifications, including an earlier, more challenging menopause.” This all goes to highlight, that the menopause experience is definately NOT the same for everyone. The disparities in the research, treatment offered and healthcare support are evident. If I as a white women at 40 was told I was too young, offered antidepressants and had to fight to get the right medical support, imagine being a much younger black woman or WOC going through premature menopause? The impact of that on their careers, on their fertility & personal lives? So please share these statistics, these studies, this information with those you know and work with. We cannot make menopause inclusive if we only share and see white women's statistics and hear white women's experiences. The world is not all white 🖤 💛 ❤️ #menopauseawareness #racialbias #healthinequalities #menopausesupport #blackhistorymonth #linkedin

Biohack Like A Woman, my review: Overall 8/10 ... for the right audience. Why an audience for under 35? Because I believe her way of writing probably better matches this generation than 36+. She focuses on women's health mainly related in reproductive years. This is not a book for women in their peri/post menopause years even though much of the content would suffice. It IS for you if: - you want to learn more about women's health - you need to be reminded of health foundations across things like food, sleep, movement etc. - you have/do battle with mindset about weight loss - you want a summary of some of the best science out there It is NOT for you if: - you would consider yourself as an advanced health biohacker (this book is for beginners) - you are a woman in peri/post menopause, (there are better authors to support you here) - you don't like swearing (lol, she loves sprinkling F bombs throughout) - you are in the camp that follow the science around intermittent fasting being no good for female physiology Have you read it? What were your thoughts? #biohacking #healthcoach #functionalmedicine #biohack #health #wellness #lifestylemedicine #longevity
