Americans are calling on policymakers to address harmful practices by insurers and pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) that limit access to new medicines and treatments. A recent Morning Consult/PhRMA poll of over 20,000 Americans across all 50 states and 435 congressional districts reveals that 8 in 10 Americans are concerned that: - PBMs profit off of financial assistance that is intended to help patients afford the medicine they need, or block people from using this assistance altogether. - PBMs influence what medicines patients get and control what patients pay at the pharmacy. It's clear Americans want real solutions that hold big insurers and their PBM middlemen accountable for making it harder for patients to get the care they need. Major changes are coming to the Medicare Part D prescription drug benefit program in 2025 due to the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022. Some group health plans may no longer meet Part D creditable coverage requirements. However, CMS will allow the use of the simplified determination tool for 2025. It’s possible that actuarial services may be needed for creditable status determination after 2025.
