World Wildlife Day is not just a day on the calendar for us; it's a reflection of what we stand for and a call to action. It aligns perfectly with our efforts to minimize our environmental footprint, promote sustainability in every aspect of our operations, and support initiatives that contribute to the conservation of our planet's precious wildlife. The Pecos River spans 900 miles from the pine forests of northern New Mexico through the deserts of southeastern New Mexico and West Texas. This river supports some of the world’s most biodiverse arid ecosystems, home to many unique fish and aquatic species. But these habitats are under threat from development, invasive species and water scarcity. Native grasslands, crucial for wildlife like pronghorn and migratory birds, have shrunk dramatically, affecting both wildlife and local ranches. Protecting these ecosystems is essential for maintaining biodiversity and supporting sustainable ranching practices. That’s why the Pecos Watershed Conservation Initiative is looking to restore and sustain healthy rivers, streams and grassland systems that provide important wildlife habitat in the Pecos watershed >> [link to program page] Thank you to our partners, Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), USDA’s Natural Resources Conservation Service, Apache Corporation, Chevron, ConocoPhillips, Oxy and ExxonMobil. 📷: Pecos watershed

For decades, a more than 10,000-acre swath of land in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula was carefully managed by one family as a healthy, mature working forest. TNC purchased that land in 2021, which is now Slate River Forest Reserve, and recently completed our first timber harvest using some of the same techniques employed on the land for 60 years. "By conducting periodic, small-scale harvests, we can help younger trees grow into the canopy, encourage higher tree species diversity in the forest, create or enhance wildlife habitat and cultivate high quality sawtimber," says Alex Helman, forest project manager for TNC in Michigan. 🌎The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) has received a $3 million grant to boost its crucial work in the Northern Great Plains — one of only four remaining intact temperate grasslands in the world! This vast ecosystem, spanning 180 million acres, is home to over 1,500 plant species and 500 wildlife species. WWF's Sustainable Ranching Initiative is working to protect this vital habitat and promote regenerative grazing practices. The grant will help WWF expand its innovative Ranch Systems and Viability Planning (RSVP) Network. They've already enrolled over 1 million acres in partnership with 100 ranches, with 52% managed or co-managed by women and 35% by ranchers under 40.
