A major American petroleum company had an issue in one of their #refineries with a previously installed submersible pumping solution that could not handle the amount of solids present at times, leading to clogging and accelerated pump wear. The submersible pumps were powered by a stationary, electrically-driven hydraulic power pack. Hevvy/Toyo's engineering team came up with a solution that utilized the existing power pack to facilitate the installation of a heavy-duty HNS submersible slurry pump while retaining the inherent benefits a hydraulic setup can provide in these hot applications. After installation, Hevvy's HNS submersible slurry pump exceeded the refinery's expectations: it managed to pump a much higher concentration of solids than its previous pumping solution without clogging and ran for over 18 months with 0 issues or even needing to be pulled for inspection. Why Diesel Engines "Throw a Rod" 1- Did you know that one very small dent hardly seen by eye on the connecting rod big end bearing cap splitline before bolting is torqued, will cause the engine to self destruct in weeks or few months? 2- Did you know that even with a perfect split line, no dents, one grain or particle of sand trapped between the bottom and top half bearing cap split lines will cause a similar failure? 3- Reusing the Splitline bolts during overhaul can lead to failure unless they are of hydraulically stretched design. 4- For standby generator drives, the connecting rod bolts are exposed to a large number of start-stops without accumulating many operating hours, so users believe no need for overhaul after 15 years for example. But the critical connecting rod bolts will loosen due to thermal cycling, and fail by fatigue. Solution: Remove crankcase lower half and retorque the bolts.
