The foster care system can be difficult to navigate for both the children and foster parents involved. Many children raised within the system face internal struggles as they try to find stability, love and acceptance. If you were a foster child who had to move from home to home, it can be hard to feel secure. You may struggle with feelings of abandonment, low self-esteem and trust issues. The system needs improvement to better support these vulnerable youth. Let's raise awareness of the challenges foster youth endure. #fostercare #fosteryouth #fostercarematters

Have you ever considered how social conditions can lead to foster care involvement?⚖️ Poverty, underfunded schools, under-resourced communities, and heavy police presence are just a few of many hardships that foster youth often face. California Assemblymember Isaac Bryan argues that foster care is “one of the largest drivers of inequality in society.” He notes that it’s not a coincidence that the same communities with high numbers of children in foster care are the same communities that suffer from these social inequalities. Bryan suggests that by redesigning our communities to be more equitable, we can positively impact the lives of foster youth and families and prevent system involvement in the first place. Want to hear directly from a young person about the challenges youth face when they exit the foster care system? This 4 minute video provides great insight!
Ambrosia stayed at TGTHR for some time after aging out of the foster care system. With nearly 400,000 children in foster care and a shortage of licensed homes for them to move into, the foster care system is strained. At 18, many foster kids are pushed out of the system and left on their own – facing an increased risk of homelessness and incarceration. Correspondent Laura Chavez travels to Colorado to meet with organizations that are helping former foster kids land on their feet, like TGTHR. Your help can save lives
NEWS: Shining a light on how fostering can have a positive impact for our children 🧡 There are currently 40 children in foster care across the borough, for many different reasons and needing short term, emergency or long term care, as well short breaks from their current household. The council is reaching out to ask more residents to help and join the fostering community to give vulnerable children and young people in the borough the opportunity to live healthy, happy and safe lives whilst needing a caring and supportive family to grow and explore. It’s National Foster Care Month! The children in our foster care system deserve a better hand than the one they’ve been dealt. That’s why I was proud to be joined by leaders across San Diego in kicking off National Foster Care Month and declaring “Wear Blue Day”. Every 1 in 4 foster youth will go homeless by age 25 after exiting care, Black and Brown children make up 30% of the 390,000 kids in foster care federally, and in San Diego County 80% of Black children do not reunify with any member of their family of origin. @pajmovement is leading the foster care reform efforts to address these disparities through policy change. We are working to cut the foster care to homelessness pipeline in half by pushing for more transitional housing for our foster youth who are exiting the system, expanding cultural competency within the system from the administrative levels to the programs that engage foster children who are disproportionately Black and Brown, and working to expand guaranteed income programs for foster youth nationally because receiving help should not have stigma attached to it. Every county across America has a responsibility to these kids and we will work to remind them of that every day. Wear a blue ribbon or some kind of blue this month in honor of our foster youth. #nationalfostercaremonth #fostercareawareness #fosteryouthmatter #fosteryouthvoicesmatter #fightforfosterkids

Did you know? The Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas holds 65,000 people. Multiply this by six and you get 390,000, which falls short of accommodating the 400,000 kids in foster care today. Nationwide, there are only half the amount of homes needed to house them. One of the reasons for the shortage is that 50% of new foster parents quit within the first year, with many stating lack of community support as a reason. That's where our Foster Friendly program comes in. We help increase foster parent retention by equipping businesses, churches and entire communities to support and encourage local foster families. As a business leader, you can make a huge difference in the lives of foster families and the children they serve through: A) Corporate sponsorships Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gpG2DDsC B) Offering discounts to foster families on our free Foster Friendly App Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gasfpedz Join the movement and let's make sure these local heroes receive the community support they deserve! #fosterfriendly #nfl #superbowl Statistics source: Lifesong for Orphans

Did You Know? #Foster #care plays a critical role in the lives of thousands of #children across #Georgia. At Camp Horizon, we are dedicated to #empowering #youth impacted by foster care, helping them #grow and #thrive in a supportive #community. Here are some important facts about #foster #care in #Georgia: 💡 Over 12,000 children are in foster care in Georgia at any given time. Many of these children are between ages 5 and 18, with teenagers representing about 20-25% of the foster care population. 💡 On average, children spend around 20 months in foster care before being reunited with family or placed in a permanent home. 💡 Every year, approximately 700-800 young adults age out of foster care in Georgia without a permanent family. 💡 Georgia is committed to keeping siblings together in foster placements, though challenges remain in finding families for sibling groups. 💡 Fewer than 3% of foster youth earn a college degree by age 25, highlighting the need for stronger educational support. 💡 Around 1,500 children are adopted from foster care in Georgia each year, but many older youth continue to wait for permanent homes. 💡 60-70% of children in foster care experience trauma-related mental health challenges, requiring specialized care and resources. 💡 Reunification is the primary goal for most foster care cases, with about half of the children leaving foster care returning to their biological families. At Camp Horizon, we are proud to provide a #safe #space where #foster #youth can build #resilience, develop #life #skills, and create lasting #connections. 💙 Want to help? 🙏 Consider supporting our #mission by becoming a #mentor, #volunteering, or making a #donation to help fund our year-round #programs for youth impacted by foster care. #FosterCareAwareness #EmpowerYouth #CampHorizonStrong #SupportFosterYouth #FosterCareGeorgia
