I am thriller to announce that the paper in collaboration with Roberto Rusconi, Valeriano Vinci, Lab Mavilio is finally out! Our paper sheds light on the physical interaction between implant surfaces and biological tissues, trying to understand whether texturization of implant surfaces could lead to chronic inflammation. Our findings suggest that the surface features of the implant may have a greater impact on inflammatory reactions than the material itself. This research marks the beginning of exploring this complex area and highlights the importance of understanding interactions between implants and the immune system. The E.U. has assembled leading experts in the field of ophthalmology to identify policy action that can address this disease on an EU-wide scale. Geographic atrophy (GA) from age-related macular degeneration (AMD) remains a leading cause of vision loss. 💡 ❤️ Happy to share that our paper on 3D left atrial motion estimation and strain measurement from 4D CT imaging was published last week in Frontiers Cardiovascular Medicine. In this study, we developed a pipeline to measure regional left atrial strain from 4D CT, and compared strains in cardiac resynchronisation therapy patients with and without atrial fibrillation. 🔬 We found that patients with AF had reduced and more dyssynchronous 3D left atrial motion and strain. We are proud to announce a research collaboration with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for tissue-engineered discs with DiscGenics' proprietary Discogenic Cells. This project, led by Sarah Gullbrand at the University of Pennsylvania, has been awarded BRAVE Funding by the VA Technology Transfer Program to support a large animal study of Discogenic Cell-derived implants. In the words of Kevin Foley, M.D., DiscGenics' Chief Medical Officer and practicing neurosurgeon: "A biologic disc replacement in lieu of existing mechanical devices would continue to change the paradigm of spine care away from a device-centric model to one of disease modification through biologic and cell-based treatments."
