We're at this interesting intersection where 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘵𝘩 𝘴𝘱𝘰𝘳𝘵𝘴 are attractive to PE... And there's a "gold rush" for the top service businesses: This week's podcast guest was Brendan Winters, co-founder of Pro Skills Basketball, an innovative club/AAU basketball membership model. What's crazy? • Brendan went straight from pro hoops to building a business. • PSB went from one summer camp to over 20+ cities in the States. • They never raised any outside capital (bootstrapping the biz from day 1). They've reached an interesting crossroads as the business flourishes...take PE money or continue the bootstrapped domination? Check out the eye-opening 20-minute podcast here: https://lnkd.in/e73YMkbu
It's fascinating to witness the convergence of youth sports opportunities and private equity interest. Brendan Winters' journey from professional basketball to entrepreneurship with Pro Skills Basketball is truly inspiring. Their organic growth from a single summer camp to a nationwide presence without external funding underscores their resilience and vision. The decision whether to pursue private equity investment or maintain their bootstrapped approach is undoubtedly a significant one. It speaks volumes about their commitment to maintaining control versus seeking accelerated growth. I'll definitely check out the podcast to gain insights into this pivotal crossroads. Thanks for sharing Andrew Petcash
The youth basketball industry is larger than football, and better attended there are levels to the model, wherein some leagues are competitive others not and the coaching or teaching aspect is different . The age grouping of 12u is far larger than the 15u mainly because those kids are playing for the school they attend. But this different from state to state.
Can't wait to listen to this one. If you have a product, only take the money if you want to scale fast. otherwise wait. I think...? Is that right Tony Caudill
Sounds like an exciting journey and a tough decision ahead!
