Functional Safety Engineer, Functional Safety Manager, Automotive Cybersecurity Engineer. Taking safety seriously.
A Safety Culture 🤔? Continued, Part III. What is it, and how can it be expressed? In my previous posts (https://lnkd.in/dzvcJQCu and https://lnkd.in/dD4HvMVM) I reminded us of several foundations (defined by Dr. James Reason) for a good safety culture at an organization – "an informed culture", and "a reporting culture". Now, let's look on what comes after certain weaknesses or flaws regarding safety are identified - "a learning culture" 📒. To rephrase: "A strong learning culture in an organization is marked by the willingness and competence to draw the right conclusions from safety data and the determination to implement significant reforms or improvements" 🛠. For reports (which, in a good company, are gladly embraced) to be truly beneficial, an organization must actively learn from them. This learning involves both analyzing past incidents and anticipating potential future risks, driven by a fundamental readiness within the organization to embrace change and enhance safety measures. This is also a good step where a company improves their processes and quality in order to reduce or quickly mitigate similar incidents in the future 🛣. #safetyculture #jamesreason #learningculture #takingsafetyseriously #safety

Released today on Day One of the Global Safety Innovation Summit 2024 is our new HOP Into Action book series called "HOP Beginners Guide To Doing Safety Differently". Volume One is an introduction to HOP. The author's Brent Sutton and Bobby Cowger would like to thank Rob Fisher for writing the foreword and the contributors Todd Conklin, Jeffery Lyth, Brent Robinson, Josh Bryant, and Stephen Harvey. This series of beginner guides explore HOP, tools, and integration themes for everyone. Volume One explores the origins of Human and Organization Performance, the five principles, and ways of applying the principles in your program for safety, quality, and operational excellence. Non-academics wrote this book for non-academics, which is not only relatable to people but also creates a call to action, “HOP Into Action®,” which is our safety differently approach to building human capability, capacity, and resilience in all things HOP, using a scaffolded learning approach, which we call CCR® (Capability, Capacity, and Resilience). We will help you to improve your; 1. Capability of HOP knowledge and understanding through this body of knowledge and stories from real people. 2. Capacity to go out into the real world and use the activities in the book to try out the concepts, themes, tools, and approaches to create the link between learning and improving. 3. Resilience as you learn, reflect, and adapt to the challenges you will encounter on your journey, using the learning, reflection and coaching journal in each book. #HOP #learningteams #safetydifferently #4Ds https://lnkd.in/gP3vdYJS

I love the simplicity of this slide. We ask delegates to share their thoughts and ideas as we progress through a workshop, stopping regularly to reflect on the material so far, and identifying what can be done - for each person - to make a difference. 'Not all variables that cause accidents can be 100% controlled or mitigated.' '.... just using plain common sense.' It's great when we get authentic conversations going around safety culture. #compassionatesafety #safetyculture #safetyleadership
