Happy Presidents Day. Today, we’re not just celebrating great leaders, but also their impactful contributions to our nation’s energy landscape. Did you know that President Franklin D. Roosevelt, in 1938, signed the Natural Gas Act, paving the way for the development of our country’s midstream sector? It laid the groundwork for a more organized, regulated, and interconnected natural gas industry. This framework not only ensured the reliability and stability of the natural gas supply but also contributed to the growth and development of the midstream sector by fostering the construction and maintenance of pipelines essential for transporting natural gas across the country. Happy Presidents Day, and here’s to a future where energy innovation continues to be at the forefront of our great nation. #PresidentsDay #EnergyInnovation

The Western Freedom team was excited to participate in the Western Interstate Energy Board's Spring 2024 CREPC-WIRAB meeting in Denver last week! Congratulations to the entire WIEB team for hosting a record number of attendees for informative and exciting conversations on western energy developments. Some of our favorite discussions included: 💡 A presentation about the Pathways Initiative - Pamela Sporborg and Evelyn Kahl gave a clear and thorough overview of the April 10 Straw Proposal and saw great engagement from state participants. 📉 Understanding Seams - With the potential for two day-ahead markets in the West, Kelsey Martinez with Public Service Company of New Mexico (PNM), Rachel Dibble with Bonneville Power Administration, Scott Miller with WESTERN POWER TRADING FORUM and Johannes Pfeifenberger with The Brattle Group had an interesting discussion on the implications of #seams and how system operators will (or will not) be equipped to manage them between the two markets. Want to reduce those challenges? Create one large market footprint! 🔌 Resource Adequacy - #Reliability and #ResourceAdequacy were a major theme at the meeting, especially considering the recent announcement by WRAP participants to delay the launch of binding operations to mid-2027. Despite the delay, we heard a resounding desire by participants and the Western Power Pool to work together and assess potential changes to the program to allow for robust participation. With another successful meeting under our belt, we are looking forward to seeing continued market progress when CREPC meets again this fall. ⚡ #CREPC #EnergyMarkets #PathwaysInitiative #WesternMarketDevelopment #Progress #CustomerBenefits #RegionalCollaboration

Exceptional conversation last week at the TRBOT on fleet transition to zero and low carbon vehicles. UPS has committed to achieving 100% carbon neutrality by 2050, with near term targets along the way such as: By 2025, we aim to have 40% of ground operations run by alternative fuels (including electric). By 2035, hit a 50% reduction in CO2e per package delivered. Canada has a long way to go to decarbonize the transport sector but one thing is for sure- this region has some of the brightest minds and experts to scale low carbon fuels right here in the GTHA. I’m optimistic.
Last week, we capped off our three-part #EVBreakfastSeries launched in May 2023. Our panelists for part 3, Joey Cyples (Enbridge Gas), Crystal Rasa (IKEA Canada), Ry Smith (Change Energy Services Inc.) and Carolyn Kim (UPS) shared their experiences and insights into how they are navigating and implementing fleet transition plans. Thanks to our sponsor for the day Enbridge, series partner Toronto Hydro, as well as, University of Toronto and AtkinsRéalis for their partnership in the first two parts of the series.
