Healthy Homes program offers up to $15K in home renovations for vulnerable groups
For those who find themselves struggling to afford the necessary home repairs and improvements to keep their environment safe, there's a new program that aims to help.
Greater Bergen Community Action has launched its Healthy Homes program, an initiative that aims to remediate environmental hazards in 140 residential units throughout Bergen and Passaic counties. For each, the organization is offering up to $15,000 worth of essential home improvements — to address risks like mold, lead and structural deficiencies — to vulnerable income-eligible populations like seniors age 65 years and older, disabled individuals and families with young children.
It is funded through a grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and Program Director Avery Headley said GBCA was one of just 20 organizations nationwide — and one of two in New Jersey — to receive the grant.

National Workforce Development Expert, Professional Motivator, Economic Equity Leader, and Innovator serving as a Local Workforce Development Board Director, Nonprofit Executive & Licensed Consultant
I am very excited about the opportunity to serve a second term as the Vice Chair of the Board of Directors for the National Association of Workforce Development Professionals (NAWDP).
The work doesn’t stop after you get elected though. Now the real work starts and I will pick up from where I left off in 2023. Three of my priorities are below and I am looking for partners to help achieve them.
1. NAWDP represents all workforce development professionals. As such we need to connect with every workforce development organization, college, public school, apprenticeship sponsor, workforce development board, and government official focusing on workforce development. Let’s talk with our Director of Membership, Alexis Franks, SHRM-CP,CWDP, who is ready to discuss why the staff of all of those organizations and agencies, nationwide, should be a member of NAWDP.
2. Staff and supervisors need professional development and NAWDP is a one stop shop for workforce development training and professional development. NAWDP is the home of the Certified Workforce Development Professional (CWDP), the NAWDP Annual Conference, the NAWDP Youth Symposium, the NAWDP Business Academy, and a host of the other training and professional development opportunities. If you want information about attending, presenting, or sponsoring any of these, let’s connect! I am sure David Barch, CWDP and Kimberly Meadows, MBA, CWDP would love to talk with you.
3. We know that we are stronger united, than we are alone. That is why I want to see MOUs that institutionalize partnerships between NAWDP with other regional and national workforce development, community development, economic development, adult education, apprenticeship, secondary and post-secondary associations and membership groups. If you are a board member, leader, staff or executive of those organizations, let me connect you with the NAWDP CEO, Melissa Robbins, CGFM, CWDP, to see where synergies are between NAWDP and your organization.
Overall thank you to my fellow Board Members, I am looking to partner with our Chair, Dana Keller, fellow Execitive Committee members, the entire NAWB board and staff. Let’s continue the mission!
NAWDP is excited to announce that Walter L. Simmons, GCDF, representing the state of Maryland on NAWDP's Board of Directors, has been elected as Vice Chair for the Executive Committee. The Executive Committee completes business on behalf of the Board of Directors when they are unable to convene. Please join us in thanking Simmons for his time serving NAWDP and its members in this capacity. www.nawdp.org#NAWDPBoardOfDirectors#WorkforceDevelopment#NAWDP
The Babcock, once a city within a city, has been brought back to life thanks to the dedication of Clachan Properties, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and Berkadia. After a five-year-long development project, The Babcock, and its iconic cupola, have been revitalized. Join us in celebrating the historic preservation of The Babcock and the Bull Street District in Columbia, South Carolina. #HUDhttps://ow.ly/PiGY50RZ4vO
Since June 2023, I’ve had the privilege of being part of the Pinellas County team and the ICMA Local Government Management Fellowship. My current assignment? Dive headfirst into the fascinating world of the Office of Budget and Management. 📊
During a pivotal phase in the budgeting process, I’ve delved into various aspects, including:
1. County Operating Budgets: Unraveling the financial intricacies that keep our community running smoothly.
2. Grant Management: Navigating the grants landscape to maximize resources for essential services.
3. Capital Improvement: Understanding how investments in infrastructure shape our county’s future.
4. Performance Management: Analyzing data to drive efficiency and effectiveness.
🏖️ Yesterday, in celebration of Administrative Professionals Day, the Pinellas Board of County Commissioners staff hosted a delightful beach cookout. 🌴 The sun, sand, and camaraderie made it a memorable day. I even joined in the friendly volleyball, soccer, and fishing tournament activities! 🎉
