We need the entire community, the ecosystem to realise we have this potential and do it.“ On one of the panel discussions from The Capability Papers: LIVE Forum held by InnovationAus.com in Canberra, October, our founder and CEO Frank Yao has shared his views on how Australia can act to seize a seat on this US$60 billion-dollar table. Australia has a deep research heritage in photonics and laser technology. The ecological impact of exponential growth in performance and market size has introduced roadblocks for materials use, energy consumption and end-of-life disposal. FUTUR-IC is a global academic/industry alliance tasked to maintain continued progress of the Semiconductor Manufacturing and Information Systems industry with a 3-dimensional scaling paradigm for technology, ecology, and workforce solutions. 📣Excellent news👏 We are excited to share that our NanoPhoton - Center for Nanophotonics member Elizaveta Semenova and Caterina Vigliar, as part of an international research team together with other academic and industrial partners, have been awarded an EU grant for the project "Quantum Photonic Integrated Circuits at 1550 nm - QPIC1550." This initiative is supported by the EU HORIZON program focusing on "Digital and Emerging Technologies for Competitiveness and Fit for the Green Deal” 👌   The primary objective of this project is to pioneer the development of a versatile Quantum Photonic Integrated Circuit (QPIC) platform functioning in the telecom C-band with a wavelength centered around 1550nm. This platform will be realised by the heterogeneous integration of InP Quantum Dot (QD) devices and InGaAs single-photon detectors on SiN-based photonic integrated circuits. Once successful, this has the potential to boost integrated quantum photonics by combining the creation of on-demand single photons and entangled photon pairs with its efficient manipulation and single-photon detection. Its compatibility with existing optical fiber networks sets this platform apart, rendering it a cost-effective solution for quantum communication, computing and quantum metrology applications. Our project aims to showcase the flexibility of our QPIC platform in three different use cases: quantum key distribution, remote quantum computing and quantum clock synchronisation.   QPIC1550 will mutually benefit from synergy with two DNRF Centers of Excellence, NanoPhoton - Center for Nanophotonics and SPOC and two ERC grants StG TuneTMD and CoG UNITY.
