🚀 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐋𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐬 𝐋𝐢𝐤𝐞 & 𝐄𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲!🌍 Reflecting on my recent attendance at the Bold UnConference in Austria, centered on the theme "𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞", I am more optimistic than ever about the future of food and ensuring global food security. Our Food team engaged in dynamic brainstorming sessions and devised innovative strategies to ensure a sustainable global food supply by 2040. One of the key concepts we developed is the "𝐋𝐢𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐅𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐌𝐚𝐥𝐥". This innovative idea leverages the potential of 𝐔𝐫𝐛𝐚𝐧 𝐅𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐀𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 to create a sustainable and efficient food production system. The Living Food Mall integrates: 🌱 𝐔𝐫𝐛𝐚𝐧 𝐅𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠: Utilizing urban spaces to grow food locally, reduce transportation costs, and increase accessibility. 🧬 𝐂𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐀𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞: Advancing cell-based food production to meet growing food demands sustainably. 👩🍳 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐊𝐢𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐬: Establishing communal cooking spaces to foster community bonding and reduce food waste. 🌾 𝐂𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐅𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠: Encouraging collaborative farming practices among small populations to increase productivity and resource sharing. 📊 𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐅𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠: Utilizing big data and AI to optimize agricultural practices, predict trends, and enhance food security. The exchange of ideas and the collaborative spirit were truly inspiring. Together, we are paving the way for a future where food security is not just a goal but a reality. 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻𝘄𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝗯𝗲 𝗮𝗻 𝗢𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗻: Discussions this evening with Rainforest Alliance, Earthjustice, and O'Melveny & Myers LLP opened the layers and complexities behind sustainability claims. 💡 𝘍𝘢𝘭𝘴𝘦 𝘤𝘭𝘢𝘪𝘮𝘴 𝘩𝘶𝘳𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘳𝘦 𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘺, 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘥𝘶𝘢𝘭. Next up, in The Earthshot Prize Nominee feature, we have Better Dairy! 🌎 Better Dairy was formed to create a world where everything tastes better, starting with cheese - without consumers having to make trade-offs on sustainability or animal welfare. It recognises the problem of farming being highly unsustainable and inefficient. Despite a growing number of consumers trying to make more sustainable choices, plant-based products are yet to catch up in terms of taste, nutrition, and functionality. Better Dairy leverages precision fermentation technology, where microorganisms like yeast are tweaked and used as mini-factories to make the molecularly identical milk proteins that lend dairy its characteristic taste, texture, and functionality. By removing animals entirely from the equation, their products require 90%+ less CO2, water, and land use. It's not quite magic, but it's close! To support more food innovators and push forward this transformation in the food industry, Impact Hub Amsterdam is launching the Food Innovators platform together with Food Hub (NL), Rabobank Amsterdam Metropolitan Area, and Flevo Campus. The platform’s ambition is to transform the food landscape as we know it; by making knowledge, networks and funding more accessible; to build bridges between innovators and the resources they need.
