📣 Breaking News! 📣 We’re excited to share that we've partnered with Winnipeg Transit Plus to make specialized transit services more convenient and reliable for every rider! 🤝 Currently, Winnipeg Transit Plus handles over 28,000 requested trips a month, serves over 5,100 active registered customers, and operates with a dedicated fleet of approximately 70 vehicles. The new system will launch in less than one month and signifies a dedicated focus by Winnipeg Transit's team on incorporating advanced technology into Transit Plus’ operations. This upgrade paves the way for broader service enhancements, as the partnership is set to expand to include Winnipeg’s Transit On-Request service later this year. In this week’s PTAANZ #TopTransportNews, New Zealand’s new ticketing payment system, Motu Move, aims to enhance convenience for passengers and encourage public transport use across the nation.  New Zealand's National Ticketing Solution (NTS), in partnership with the NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA) and 13 regional Public Transport Authorities, will introduce contactless debit or credit cards, digital payment methods, and Motu Move cards for public transport rolling out in Canterbury this December. Supplier, Cubic Transportation Systems, has been preparing and testing the NTS to ensure a seamless experience. Dino Beverakis, Vice President of Cubic Transport, highlights how these new payment options will simplify public transport use and improve the customer experience.  “The new payment options will remove barriers to public transport use for those who don’t currently carry a prepaid card or who travel in different regions,” Beverakis says. “It will also make using public transport easier for visitors and first-time users as they won’t need to worry about buying a separate prepaid card.” PTAANZ is thrilled to see how these initiatives will benefit passengers, making public transport more accessible and user-friendly. Understanding Interoperability in Transport! Interoperability is a technical term that often confuses and misleads many transport providers when evaluating and/or implementing ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems). To help clarify, here is a simple, non-technical definition of interoperability from a commuter’s perspective: Interoperability means having a “seamless travel experience”. It is an AFC (Automated Fare Collection) technology feature that allows commuters to use the same fare media across different types of transportation modes and operators. The key benefit is that commuters can switch between different transport services without needing multiple fare media (i.e. e-tickets or payment methods).
