CEO & Founder of Faradair® - A sustainable aviation leader that is shaping Future Flight and NetZero aerospace.
This morning I had the great pleasure to speak on a panel as part of the Westminster Energy, Environment and Transport Forum conference titled - Next steps for aviation decarbonisation in the UK. 2024 marks 10 years since we started this journey at Faradair Aerospace Limited and I am so very grateful to all those who have supported us in this period. Events like this one today, enable us to have a voice and to share our experiences and our vision. As part of my brief presentation, I highlighted the Advanced Air Mobility index by Sergio Cecutta as a measure of where the UK stands in terms of aerospace innovation support. The index lists over $8.8billion as having been invested in AAM projects - https://lnkd.in/eBbKG-bq Investors in other nations are backing their start-ups and innovators to go build and fly, NetZero capable assets. None of that funding has required 'challenges, quangos or councils' to dictate what or how something should be developed, how it should be applied for, or a set of made up minimum standards by which you must comply. It is a major reason why the UK is failing in its aerospace innovation support strategy. Of that index list published, all but two of those listed, came after Faradair was formed and many have taken on the regional air mobility vision and hybrid-electric propulsion ethos. Only one privately funded company on the list is British. In recent months we have spoken at or attended events at the Royal Aeronautical Society, a gathering of the APPG for General Aviation at Westminster, an evening with the Company of Air Pilots in the City of London and DPRTE in Farnborough. A common core question keeps coming up - "What has been your greatest challenge over the last 10 years?" and the answer is simple.... Funding and the lack of it in the UK. If the Aerospace Technology Institute funded us the amount requested in 2015, the UK would already have a NetZero capable commercial aircraft flying today. As you can imagine, this is both challenging and frustrating. Therefore I encourage the ATi, Department for Science, Innovation and Technology , Department for Business and Trade and the Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom , Anthony Browne and Rishi Sunak to find a way to fund us and other British aerospace start-ups directly, to allow us to compete Internationally. The regional air mobility market opportunity is proven. Hybrid-electric propulsion is proven as a sensible early propulsion solution. The core asset is proven and evolving into its final form. The team and partners have more aerospace experience and track record than most aerospace start-ups, so why not let us build our prototype and fly a NetZero capable commercial aircraft in the next few years? In addition, any investors, partners, CVC's or VC's that can help us get our fantastic BEHA aircraft into the sky, we would be delighted to hear from you.

📣 Avinor and SAS - Scandinavian Airlines has signed a collaboration agreement with the global aircraft manufacturer Airbus to develop hydrogen infrastructure at Norwegian airports. With this agreement, Norway and Sweden are positioning themselves to be early adopters in this race🌬 As part of the agreement, Avinor's Swedish counterpart, Swedavia AB, and the Swedish energy company Vattenfall are also involved for similar development at Swedish airports🇸🇪 The collaboration will contribute to knowledge and understanding of how hydrogen-powered aircraft function and airport infrastructure should be adapted, as well as the entire value chain should be established for operational use, including fuel supply lines. Norway and Sweden can be pioneers in hydrogen-powered aviation, as this is the first time a feasibility study of this kind covers two countries and more than 50 airports 🛫 Our goal is to achiev a net-zero carbon emissions from aviation by 2050, and Airbus has set a target to have the first hydrogen-powered commercial aircraft in operation by 2035.
