Congratulations to one of our clinician researchers, Dr Emma Charters, who has recently published a new study using the novel jaw stretching device that her team invented. Restorabite™ is a device to help patients with head and neck cancer who have trismus, a common symptom that makes it difficult to open the mouth, affecting eating, speech and overall quality of life. While Emma's previous research has shown that Restorabite™ can be used in patients with established trismus after surgery and/or radiotherapy, the aim of this new study was to explore the feasibility of using Restorabite™ earlier. The new publication describes the significant improvements in mouth opening and trismus-related quality of life, and is an important addition to what we are learning about treating trismus and improving outcomes for patients with head and neck cancer.
