“#European #cablemanufacturers are recognised worldwide #technologyleaders. The very substantial investment announcements made by Europacable member companies are the bold confirmation of the industry’s determination to supply Europe with #cablesystems it needs to deploy its #decarbonisation plans”. This is the message, Marcello Del Brenna, chairman of Europacable Energy Infrastructure Team, conveyed at today's ENTSO-E High-Level Roundtable on #EUGrids in Brussels. Marcello Del Brenna also added: “Industry remains committed to develop, with all relevant industry & institutional actors, #commonpractices in terms of project processes, products and sustainability requirements to speed up #gridbuildup and secure #European #manufacturingcapacity & capability for a #sustainableenergytransition for Europe, made in Europe.”

Today, the European Parliament's Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) has approved the interinstitutional agreement on the Net-Zero Industry Act (#nzia). Against the backdrop of de-industrialisation risks and declining competitiveness in Europe, the #NZIA aims at strengthening the EU’s industrial manufacturing base in crucial technologies for decarbonising our economy. Key points include: - NZIA defines 19 net-zero technologies, covering electricity grids, renewable energy technologies, and industrial decarbonisation solutions. However, it lacks focus on resource efficiency and circularity technologies, which are crucial for net-zero goals. - Positive development for addressing vulnerabilities in our industrial base: NZIA adopts a value chain approach, not only covering final clean tech products but also encompassing specific components and machinery used in clean tech production. - Manufacturing projects related to the 19 net-zero technologies will benefit from faster and streamlined permitting processes. - Selected net-zero technologies gain improved access to public procurement and renewable auctions if they meet sustainability and resilience criteria, among others. - Member States are encouraged to establish regulatory sandboxes for testing innovative net-zero technologies. - Industry will provide implementation recommendations through a Net-Zero Industry Group. - A scientific committee of experts will address regulatory burdens affecting tech companies during NZIA implementation.

The European Commission is scaling up its green subsidies, supporting clean investments further and aligning with Green Deal Industrial Plan. This supports the boost of renewable energy, hydrogen production, and environmentally friendly infrastructure. The hot spots are similar to our focus & interest areas, so that is encouraging! On 6 February, political consensus on the Net Zero Industry Act was achieved. NZIA aims to enhance EU net-zero technology manufacturing by streamlining permitting processes, improving market access, and enhancing skills, all geared towards meeting 40% of demand by 2030. It remains to be confirmed to which extent energy storage technologies made the final cut of the unified list comprising 17 technology categories, all eligible for strategic project designation, entailing the full benefits outlined in the text, such as access to financing. Moreover, preliminary information does not contain any news on additional funding needed for the deployment of cleantech industry in Europe. EASE will continue to provide updates on the NZIA.
