The Act of 03/05/2024 aimed at modifying the control of the compulsory minimum duration of time credit or career breaks has been published on 11/06/2024 in the Official Belgian Gazette. In practical terms, this Act gives workers the option of ending their time credit or career break before the mandatory minimum period has expired, provided certain conditions are met. In this case, the employee will no longer be penalised by the obligation to repay all benefits paid up to that point. However, the period requested but not taken as time credit or career break may be deducted from the remaining balance. The scope of this Act is broad: it modifies several royal decrees, introducing time credit or career break arrangements, for a variety of reasons, in both the private and public sectors. #timecredit #careerbreak #minimumperiod #sanction #claeysengels

The traditional model of a fixed work experience placement for teenagers in the summer term needs to be reinvented, two former education secretaries have said. Indeed, businesses should be considering an “ongoing” and “meaningful” relationship with secondary schools and colleges... Thoughts? I wholeheartedly agree. More and more businesses are/ should be leaning in more to supporting our next generation. https://lnkd.in/edN8nXtx

My week started by doing THE BIG HALF in London! It has been followed up with advising candidates wanting to move to 🇦🇪. The advice I give struck me as familiar: You NEED to do your research (training 🏃) because without this, where would that leave you? Definitely not nearer the finish line 🤣. When racing you make training plans, targets, watch your nutrition, wear the right clothes for you etc. You need to take this mindset to the move: ➡️Have I researched where I would live? ➡️How different is the working culture? ➡️What is the cost of living? ➡️How much is schooling? ➡️What is the salary difference? AND are all time favourite here at NSR: Do you have your degree attested?? If you have the right mind set and you trust the process, YOU WILL GET THERE! 🙌

🌟 Discover first hand what the Job Start scheme holds with insights from our JP Corry team members, Hannah and Marcus! Dive into the video below for an inside look and uncover the opportunities awaiting you. #JPCorry #JobStart #OpportunityAwaits #CareerGrowth
It was great to see over 550 young people visit 2 Royal Avenue yesterday for our JobStart Meet the Employer event, where they had the chance to meet over 30 employers with JobStart opportunities in a wide range of roles. Thanks to a partnership between ourselves and Department for Communities, the free event, attended by our Lord Mayor and the Minister for Communities Gordon Lyons, also provided useful information on our Employment Academies, self-employment, the Gateway to Choices (G2C) service and the Condition Management Programme. It was all about helping young people in Belfast who are at risk of long-term unemployment or struggling to get a job - a key priority in our Belfast Agenda – and part of our employability and skills programme, #TakeTheNextStep. The diverse roles on offer spanned administration, childcare, customer service, distribution, health and social care, hospitality, logistics, marketing, sports coaching, transport, videography, youth work and warehousing. Watch this short video with Hannah Quirey, HR Advisor, JP Corry and Marcus Harvey, a JobStart graduate employed by JP Corry, to see what they thought. Chief Executive at ColegauCymru | CollegesWales. Board member at Hoci Wales. Former General Secretary at Welsh Labour, Director for Wales of Learning and Work Institute and Special Adviser at Welsh Government.
Plenty to reflect on at the end of my three month secondment to Welsh Government. Lots of 12 hour days, weekends spent on the phone and occasionally in the office. A daily variety of policy issues and some unforgettable, positive experiences (including accompanying the First Minister to Normandy). It was a genuine privilege to work so closely with the civil service and to understand the pressures and demands they face. In particular I was so impressed with the quality of so many of those working in Private Offices. Under the most challenging of circumstances they were unfailingly calm, professional and dedicated. If you see a CV with experience of working in a Ministerial Private Office on it then it is a decent bet they would be a top notch hire. However the pace of activity of the new UK Labour Government will present real challenges for the Welsh Government. There are great people doing amazing things across different departments, but the whole machine needs to be able to work more at pace and to translate policy intentions into improved delivery. Getting better at using data and focusing on a core set of priorities must be driven forward. And all of us, both inside and outside government, need to get better at being open and honest about the scale of challenge in our economy and public service. We have massive problems and opportunities but an honest assessment of where we are and where we want to get to has to be the starting point. Incredibly impressed too with the younger generation of Special Advisers I worked with. After a bit of time away from active politics I didn't know some of them before starting the role, but I was hugely impressed with their knowledge, judgement, and resilience. If they want to, then I hope they all have the opportunity to continue under the new First Minister as they are going to have great careers and make a huge impact in Welsh public life. The challenge in these roles is not to be drawn into being a 'super civil servant' - it is far too easy to spend excessive time on internal meetings and processes. My advice would be to spend more time being the political eyes and ears of government so that you can better challenge and question advice from officials and help to find new policy solutions. Time spent having a coffee with critical friends outside of government is 100% time well spent. My final reflection is that the last three months has reinforced my view that further education and apprenticeships need to be put firmly and squarely at the heart of policy making. There are so many areas where colleges can contribute more, including on educational attainment and attendance, meeting the skills challenges of the future, and to generating growth. The last three months have been a professional development crash course, and I start back at ColegauCymru better equipped to advocate for further education learners and staff.
