🌞 Sao Paulo inaugurates a 7 MW floating solar plant! 🏭🌊 The city of Sao Paulo, Brazil has recently inaugurated a 7 MW floating solar plant. Located on a reservoir created by a dam in Sao Paulo, the plant is equipped with 20,680 solar panels that are designed to float on the water's surface. This innovative approach to solar energy generation not only makes use of untapped space but also helps to reduce evaporation from the reservoir. With an expected annual energy production of 10,000 MWh, this floating solar plant is a significant step towards diversifying Brazil's energy mix and promoting sustainable development. We have some exciting news to kick off the week! Verano Energy is proud to contribute to Colombia's energy transition progress: Our 270 MWp solar project Las Palmeras, under the SPV, Generadora San Joaquin S.A.S, located in the department of Cesar, has been awarded in the latest Reliability Charge auction conducted by XM SA ESP for the period 2027-2028. This auction, held on Thursday, February 15th, was convened by the Comisión de Regulación de Energía y Gas (CREG) and contributed to the allocation of 4,441 MW from new solar plants, representing 99% of the total auction. This demonstrates significant growth in installed capacity and the consolidation of renewable energies in Colombia, a country that could reach a 26% share of solar energy by 2027. For Verano Energy's Country Manager in Colombia, simon harb, this news marks a groundbreaking milestone in our efforts to strengthen our presence in the Colombian energy market through the development of clean energies and contributing to our overarching goal of combating climate change. A major achievement for our EDPR team in Italy, with the implementation of the first large-scale solar project in the country. This asset will produce 17,5 GWh of clean energy per year, avoid the emission of 7,000 tons of CO2 per year and sustainably supply the equivalent of more than 6,000 local homes in Puglia. ... and we're only halfway through 2024! We currently have a capacity of almost 400 MW in wind and solar projects under construction in Italy. This significant milestone will allow us to reach 1 GW of clean energy capacity since our entry into Italy, marking a remarkable journey towards promoting a cleaner future and driving solutions in the renewable energy sector. The company aims to deliver around 6 GW of utility-scale solar capacity and around 1 GW in solar distributed generation across the globe until 2026. In 2023, Mexico experienced a solid 17% year-on-year growth in solar energy, reaching a total generation of 10.9 GW. EUPD Research estimates that the cumulative solar PV capacity in Mexico is expected to reach approximately 22 GW by 2028. During 2024-28, the country is expected to add around 11 GW of solar PV capacity. Consequently, Mexico stands among the top ten countries globally in manufacturing value. While the renewable energy sector in Mexico shows promise for substantial growth, overcoming various challenges is crucial to meeting the nation's clean energy objectives and promoting the widespread adoption of renewable energy solutions across diverse sectors. 📢 We've agreed a three year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Enery for two solar parks located in the Harju county of Estonia. Centrica will offtake power production from the Rummu and Jersey solar parks which generate approximately 39 GWh of green electricity annually - the demand of approximately 12,366 households. It's the first PPA for Centrica Energy in the Estonian market, where the Country is looking to more than double the share of electricity consumption met by renewables from 19% in 2020 to 40% in 2030. 💚🔌 PPAs such as this one provide price certainty for operators, enabling further expansion of renewable energy development.
