The launch of the ‘Alliance for Global Good - Gender Equity and Equality’ supported by the #indiangovernment and the World Economic Forum, at WEF’s annual meeting in #davos this month, marks a significant achievement to the cause of women-led development as propounded by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. I am happy to note that the primary and stated objective of this new alliance is to bring together global best practices, knowledge sharing and investments in the identified areas of #women’shealth, #education, and enterprise.   At Bayer, we have been relentlessly working towards #empoweringwomen, especially in rural areas. Whether it is creating women Agri entrepreneurs through our Better Life Farming centers and the #Sahbhaagiprogram or ensuring access to health and nutrition for women, we have been constantly endeavoring to transform the lives of women, through our initiatives. By joining this alliance, we at #teambayer, not only hope to strengthen our commitment to empower women but also hope to collaborate with the government and the alliance’s other partners to deliver impactful work in this field. The fact that we are witnessing a collective global endeavor to advance women's empowerment and #GenderEquality, led by India, is truly inspiring.   I also want to thank the honorable minister for Women & Child Development, Smt. Smriti Irani, for encouraging and supporting us in joining this alliance because this alliance highlights the importance of #collaboration amongst government, industry and foundations to make a meaningful impact across communities. Contextualizing DEI for Impact: Moving Beyond Western Paradigms Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives are crucial for fostering vibrant intellectual communities. However, a critical consideration often overlooked is the need for contextualization. Simply replicating first-world models can prove ineffective, as socio-economic realities differ significantly across geographical boundaries. Consider the following video. It exemplifies a powerful approach, seamlessly integrating women's empowerment and DEI principles within a specific societal context of Israel. This contextualization unlocks true value for the broader ecosystem and ensure purpose driven leadership within one self. Professor Prasanna Tantri of ISB Hyderabad offers another inspiring example. His work champions inclusive environments by leveraging microfinancing activities within rural, self-help groups. This approach recognizes the unique socio-economic landscape of India, leading to a more impactful DEI strategy. Its a high time what we as Indian ecosystem should delink DEI from Women empowerment and search for the bigger & purpose driven meaning of the same. By acknowledging the necessity for context-specific solutions, the intellectual community can move beyond a one-size-fits-all approach. I recently had the incredible opportunity to travel to India, and I am still buzzing with inspiration from what I witnessed there. Among the many impactful initiatives I encountered, one stood out profoundly—the work of the Mann Deshi Foundation. Witnessing firsthand their dedication to empowering women and fostering inclusion left an indelible mark on me. On this International Women's Day, with this year's theme being "Inspire Inclusion," I can't help but reflect on the powerful ways organizations like Mann Deshi are making a difference. From providing access to financial services to offering skill-building programs, they are breaking barriers and creating pathways for women from all walks of life. The spirit of inclusion I experienced in India reminded me of the importance of championing diversity and ensuring that everyone has a seat at the table. It's not just about opening doors; it's about actively inviting and empowering individuals to thrive, regardless of their background or circumstances. Let's take this International Women's Day as an opportunity to rededicate ourselves to the cause of inclusion—to amplify diverse voices, challenge biases, and create a more equitable world for all. Ms. Mirai Chatterjee, Director of Self Employed Women's Association (SEWA) Social Security, Smt. Smriti Irani, Hon. Minister of Women and Child Development & Minority Affairs, GoI, and other eminent speakers shared views in a panel discussion titled "The Number Game" on 17th January 2024 at the World Economic Forum, Davos. The panel discussion was on the challenges in the global ecosystem on the assessment of women's engagement in the economy and about developing indicators to capture elements of work of women from the informal segment and exponential benefits for economies in capturing their contributions. Ms. Mirai Chatterjee highlighted that making women's work visible is imperative for developing indicators of measurement. She emphasized the role of SEWA in transforming the informal women's landscape by building their capacities, organizing and enabling ownership of women by facilitating through grassroots organizations.
