Mr. Natxo Devicente, Economist at COPRECI, which is part of the Mondragon network of cooperatives located in the Basque region of Spain, recently visited VimoSEWA and the SEWA Cooperative Federation. The VimoSEWA team met Mr. Natxo to exchange ideas and explore future collaborations. During the meeting, he shared the inspiring history of Mondragon and his experiences with Mundukide, Mondragon’s NGO dedicated to social transformation and international solidarity. He highlighted that respect for culture, training people, strengthening communities, creating networks, and long-term processes are success keys of cooperatives. •Fellowship | Grassroots Leaders• On 18th September 2024, we launched our "Empowering the Grassroots Leaders for Change" Fellowship, a unique and one-of-a-kind program for leaders of informal women collectives. This transformative fellowship brought together 16 incredible women leaders from four districts of Gujarat, representing sectors like handicrafts, homemade snacks, dairy, and agriculture. The program is designed to empower these informal women worker leaders to transform their aspirations into tangible success. We started with a powerful training session on Dream to Reality Mapping, helping these inspiring women chart their paths towards achieving personal and organisational goals. Reflecting on their experience, Niralben from Ujas Mahila Khedut Sangathan shared, “Before I left from Navsari for the fellowship, my family asked sarcastically how much more training I need at this age.” While Jayshreeben from Ekal Nari Manch said, “People always say what they want to do, but today I realised how much hard work it actually takes.” This fellowship marks the beginning of a significant shift in the fellows’ journeys, turning vague aspirations into concrete, achievable goals. By equipping these women with the tools, skills, and confidence they need, SEWA Cooperative Federation continues to nurture leadership and business acumen among women in the informal economy.
