From the article: "In the DTU ecosystem, the innovation process is not conceived as a linear journey that goes from basic to applied research and then to commercialization, but more as an iterative series of networked exchanges with different actors, who intervene at different moments of the innovation journey. 🧬Part of Hamilton’s growth as an innovation hub can be linked to the strategic partnerships happening within the ecosystem. Especially collaborators like McMaster University, McMaster Manufacturing Research Institute, NGen Canada , Ontario Centre of Innovation Innovation and many more, actively work one-on-one with start-ups to bring more innovations to market and help the economy grow. Where Hamilton was once primarily known for its steel manufacturing, the growth fueled by the collaborative efforts of industry leaders in the ecosystem has established Hamilton as a primary hub for innovation. 🌍 #ThrowbackFriday to the 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀, 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺    Over the course of 7 months, this program acted as a powerful engine of knowledge, bringing together organizations, researchers, startups, entrepreneurs, and communities to focus on shaping a sustainable future in line with the European Green Deal. 🌱   One of the program's highlights was the launch of the 𝗨𝗡𝗟 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗲𝘅: 𝟭𝟬𝟬 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀. 📚✨ This collection showcases the research from across the Universidade Nova de Lisboa network, that relate in multiple ways, directly and indirectly, to the program verticals’ topics. ⚽️ Latest Transfer News ⚽️ But this time not in football but only in technology transfer 📲 Last week, I met with Prof. Dr. Emanuel Carrilho and Prof. Dr. Andre Leme Fleury of Agência USP de Inovação, the Technological Innovation Center at the USP - Universidade de São Paulo - home to almost 100,000 students and a leading source of research in Latin America. Our conversation was a deep dive into the future of technology transfer, spin-offs, the dynamics of IP, entrepreneurial education and international research projects. 💭 Two thoughts that came to my mind 💭 1️⃣ Innovations or research findings that may not find immediate application or value in one country could be revolutionary in another. We need a more easily accessible, user-friendly way of matching filed patents/technologies with SMEs globally. Otherwise, universities and research institutes face extremely high costs to register and maintain their patents (most of which are not being used), and SMEs, on the other hand, have unused opportunities that can give them a competitive advantage. 2️⃣ It is important to understand that technology transfer doesn’t stop at founding a company. This is just a milestone and the beginning of a lot of work and dedication. The problem is that most programs are designed to bring researchers and scientists just to this point. At Venture Wizards, we go one step further and have designed the program "TransferPlus" to help researchers and scientists grow and scale their ventures in fields like Tech or Life Science. KNOWLEDGE SPILLOVERS AND HIDDEN CHAMPIONS Julian Schenkenhofer, Prof. Dr. Joern Block and I have published a new paper on "University knowledge spillovers and innovation of hidden champions: evidence from Italy" in R&D Management Hidden champions in entrepreneurship are small or mid-sized companies that dominate their niche markets globally while remaining relatively unknown to the general public - While 'hidden champions' are widely discussed in Germany, they represent a significant yet often overlooked aspect of the Italian economy We shed some light on the innovation dynamics of 'hidden champions' and their collaboration with universities within regional innovation ecosystems HCs often co-locate in selected regions, leading to knowledge spillovers between them – they both contribute to and benefit from their regional environment in a dynamic of university-industry spillovers The paper is available in open access at this link: https://lnkd.in/dU_FRaMB
