🤝 Empowering People through Participatory Health Systems 🤝 The newly announced Lancet Global Health Commission on People-Centred Care for Universal Health Coverage is grounded in participatory principles, using community-engaged methods and shared governance models. 🌍 The Commission's approach begins with an open call for commissioner nominations, aiming to recruit a diverse, independent group of multidisciplinary experts, including: 👥 People with lived experience 🎓 Academic researchers 🏛️ Policymakers 👩⚕️ Health-care providers 🏢 Private sector actors 🤲 Civil society This shift towards transparency and shared decision-making is crucial in publications with global influence, like the Lancet, which can intentionally contribute to dismantling unequal power structures in global health. 💪 Over 2.5 years, the Commissioners will formulate research questions, synthesise evidence and conduct new research to inform policy and practice recommendations for operationalising people-centred care in diverse settings. 📊 Through this innovative and inclusive approach, the Commission aims to forge a new way of knowing and practicing health care in the post-Sustainable Development Goal era, using people-centred care as a guide to achieving Universal Health Coverage. 🎯 How do you think participatory approaches can help reorient health systems to be truly for and with the people they serve? 💡 #ParticipatoryHealthSystems #SharedDecisionMaking #CommunityEngagement #HealthForAll

Americas Operations Lead @ Movement Health / Director de Operaciones para las Américas en Movimiento Salud
Insightful and provocative, the editorial by regional leaders Dr.Sebastian Garcia Saiso, Marcelo D., Myrna Marti, Daniel Luna, Jennifer Nelson, Ana Estela Haddad and the Pan American Health Organization's director himself Jarbas Barbosa, among other distinguished experts in the digital health field, including Alain Labrique, invites us to not only think about marginal gains on efficiency, but rather work towards a coordinated, comprehensive transformation of healthcare provision to allow for new care pathways and services through digital technologies. Among other bold proposals: "AI-driven tools will augment the capabilities of PHC (Primary Health Care) for the early detection and management of diseases. These tools can analyze vast amounts of data to identify patterns indicative of potential health issues, enabling early intervention and personalized care plans." A refreshing and most necessary call for "re-newal", "re-imagining", "re-thinking" of the health system -and the public health architecture itself!-, within a wider "cultural shift" that also requires new partnerships across sectors and disciplines - I hope the meaningful collaborations this editorial envisions come to fruition soon, so we have the best chance for equitable, inclusive and high quality healthcare access in the Americas in our time, and not just a promise for the distant future.
Director, Dept of Digital Health & Innovation at WHO. Passionate believer in possibilities. There's always a way to do/be better.
I am pleased to share, in support of my colleagues at Pan American Health Organization, our latest joint editorial titled "Together Towards Tomorrow: Partnerships Powering the Digital Transformation of the Health Sector," published in the Pan American Journal of Health (Volume 48, 2024). This editorial highlights the pivotal role of partnerships in advancing digital health transformation. It is a testament to the effective collaboration between PAHO, WHO, IDB, the World Bank, UNICEF, HIBA, and SEIDIGI/MoH Brazil, all working together to drive forward a unified approach that leverages digital technologies to create more resilient, equitable, and patient-centered health systems. You can access the full article here: https://lnkd.in/er5hs-5v Key themes covered in the editorial include: - The transformative potential of digital tools, such as telemedicine, in improving accessibility and ensuring continuity of care, particularly during public health emergencies. - The importance of cross-sectoral partnerships in expanding access to quality healthcare, especially for underserved populations. - The need for investment in digital literacy, governance, and infrastructure to build sustainable digital health ecosystems. - The role of AI-driven tools in enhancing primary health care capabilities for early detection and management of diseases. A standout example featured in the editorial is the Global Initiative on Digital Health (GIDH) (https://lnkd.in/exfBTgtU), which aims to support countries in accelerate national (and global) health goals by strengthening strategies, policies, governance, and infrastructure for digital transformation. We hope this editorial will be of interest to you and inspire meaningful discussions and collaborations within the public health community. I look forward to your thoughts and feedback. Thanks Jarbas Barbosa Marcelo D. Myrna Marti Karin Källander Marelize Gorgens Prestidge Ana Estela Haddad Dr.Sebastian Garcia Saiso for your collaboration and partnership in these goals!

The Lancet Global Health has published an open-access article on "Contemporary challenges to health information for all". Challenges highlighted are ubiquitous: information overload, infodemics, and struggle to achieve equity. What is more important, the authors pinpoint the lack of simple solutions and the need for complex interventions: 1️⃣ Tailored health information with understanding the specific needs of different end-users ensures that the information is relevant and impactful. 2️⃣ Empowering trusted intermediaries (health professionals and local opinion leaders) to channel information to those who need it most. 3️⃣ Enhancing public confidence in science and combating misinformation is an ongoing effort to appeal to both rational understanding and emotional reassurance. How do countries prioritize health policies to stay on track for Universal Health Coverage (UHC) amidst tight budgets and declining external funding? In our blog, we explore institutionalizing explicit processes for setting national priorities. In collaboration with the Joint Learning Network, USAID’s LHSS Project brought together health practitioners from eight countries, including #Bangladesh, #Ethiopia, and #Thailand, to tackle the challenge of making health priority-setting processes more systematic and inclusive. Participants highlighted four critical elements for success: having a clear framework, engaging stakeholders early, using robust evidence, and aligning priorities with plans and budgets. Despite varying approaches, these countries shared common goals in achieving sustainable and equitable #HealthSystems. Read on to discover how countries are navigating these processes and the challenges they face in ensuring inclusivity and alignment with national priorities. https://bit.ly/3VPT2Rt

Global Health challenges require innovative approaches and new ways of ensuring equitable access. Check out Solvandria Foundation for the latest in global health acceleration!
A Call to Action for Global Health Equity 🌎 Recent WHO findings spotlight significant disparities in health research funding and resources across economies, underscoring a critical global challenge. Low- and middle-income nations face notable shortages, with only 0.2% of all health research funding reaching these regions. This stark imbalance highlights an urgent need for a balanced approach to health R&D. What surprises us at Solvandria Foundation is not just the scale of these disparities, but how persistently they undermine global health progress. We are stepping into this arena with a focused mission: 1. 𝐀𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡: Aiming to catalyze the journey of health innovations from concept to real-world applications, we foster partnerships and support projects with the potential to impact global health. 2.
