In Africa, 33% of children between the ages of 12 to 14 are not in school. This troubling statistic sheds light on the complex challenges facing education systems across the continent. Barriers such as poverty, inadequate infrastructure, cultural norms, and conflict often hinder access to education for millions of children. For many families, the cost of schooling, including uniforms, books, and transportation, is simply unaffordable. Additionally, outdated teaching methods and limited resources in schools contribute to low enrollment and high dropout rates. The consequences of missing out on education are profound and far-reaching. Without access to schooling, children are more likely to face poverty, unemployment, and exploitation. They are also deprived of the opportunity to develop essential skills and knowledge needed to build a better future for themselves and their communities. Join us in breaking down barriers for these children and creating a community where every child has the opportunity to learn and thrive. In 2015, the Tanzanian government eliminated school fees for government schools, but only for enrollment. Families are still burdened with the costs of uniforms, school supplies, food, and more. These expenses are overwhelming for families already struggling with poverty. The removal of school fees didn't come with additional funding for schools, leading to a 33% increase in enrollment but resulting in overcrowded, underfunded, and under-resourced schools. Many children may be physically present in school, but effective learning is still out of reach. Schools often request unregulated "contributions" from families to cover essential costs like food and building improvements, making education unaffordable for many. Join us in addressing these challenges and creating a brighter future for our students in rural Tanzania. #GreatMinds #EdLeaders #Parents #Students #Teachers #Parents #EdChat #PassionDriven #EducationForAll #Literacy #EducationMatters

Does sponsorship help provide children with an education? The short answer is, yes! Sponsorship removes the barriers that prevent children accessing formal schooling or vocational training. This can include the provision of school uniforms, fees, and resources. From age five onwards, children take part in curriculum classes each week at the Compassion project run by their local church. The curriculum has a holistic approach, equipping children to develop physically, spiritually, cognitively and emotionally. For example, 9-11-year-olds in Ecuador learn about the benefits of eating a healthy, balanced diet, whereas 19-22-year-olds in Rwanda are taught how to develop a simple business plan. As a sponsor with Compassion, you’re part of an incredible team surrounding one child, cheering them on and empowering them to overcome poverty. You come alongside their parents, Compassion project tutors, church pastors and the wider community. We are at a point that we must accept that we have a serious problem with access to secondary education in Kenya and something must be done to address the situation urgently. The cases of poor and vulnerable children unable to join secondary schools they've been admitted to keeps growing everyday casting aspersions on how bursaries and various scholarships by government, banks, NGOs are awarded if not inadequate. The number of students currently at the mercy of old boys and girls associations, well wishers, local leaders and community groupings leaves you wondering who the other support systems tapped because the remaining ones look even more vulnerable. Over and above everything, we must begin to interrogate the entire dubject of cost of secondary education especially the extra county and national schools. When @President Ruto issues threats to school heads not to charge extra fee and nothing changes then the big question to ask is, who will save and protect parents? A public discourse on this subject is necessary because a generation is likely to be consumed in poverty completely if an opportunity for their sons and daughters to equalise up through education isn't guaranteed. Thanks Kenyans of goodwill who have stepped in to support. The MOBA, @Profesa Ochieng Odongo, Kanga old boys just to mention a few.

What’s the problem with education in Africa? Frankly there isn’t enough to go around. Ask any child what they want to be when they grow up and the answers are the same the world over. Lawyer, doctor, teacher…. By 2050, 1 in 2 Africans will be under 25 years of age. The continent will be home to 1 billion children and adolescents aged 0-18. With the right opportunities, this young and fast-growing population can be a powerful source of growth and progress in Africa, and the world. (UNICEF) 1 BILLION hopes and dreams that can be fulfilled with the gift of education. In reality as fast as we build school classrooms more are needed. Schools fill at an unprecedented rate. Mission Direct are proud to continue giving the gift of education in Africa, Asia and beyond and to give our donors the opportunity to see first-hand what a difference this incredible gift makes. Will you help fulfil the hopes and dreams of future generations? #educationforall #buildingbetterfutures #volunteer #gift

Every year, families grapple with the hefty costs of purchasing educational materials, with expenses often soaring into the thousands. This financial challenge disproportionately affects low-income households, leaving many children ill-equipped for academic success. Surprisingly, nearly two-thirds of Australians acknowledge the widespread inability of families to afford these essentials*. It begs the question: In a society that values education as the cornerstone of progress, why are so many left without the means to access it? Good360 Australia is working with our product donors and members to reach vulnerable Australians with items including educational toys, stationery and books - but there are so many left unreached. See how you can help: https://lnkd.in/ggChGFr6 *Research conducted by The Smith Family. #EveryoneDeservesEducation #BringingGoodTogether #Community #CostOfLiving

I feel so fortunate to have grown up in a family where education was a priority. It opened doors to so many opportunities, but it’s something we can often take for granted here in Canada. School is free, accessible, and we don’t always realize that in many parts of the world, it’s not the same story. In some places, children don’t have access to schools, or even when they do, the education quality is poor. But education is key. It empowers people to make choices, to lift themselves out of poverty, and to live healthier lives. Did you know that for every level of education a woman completes, her chance of dying in childbirth decreases by 10%? By the time she reaches university, that risk is almost zero. Education can literally save lives. At Freedom Tree, we’ve been working for over 10 years to provide education to those who wouldn’t otherwise have the opportunity. I’ve seen firsthand the transformation—children who once had nothing are now graduates, business owners, and providers for their families. Education gave them the power to break the cycle of poverty. Handouts aren’t the answer, but education is. It’s a lifeline. It’s the key to empowerment, and it changes everything. 🌱 Check out our YouTube video https://hubs.ly/Q02S8WDl0 with a deeper explanation and update on sponsored kids.
