HI's new report " Rehabilitation matters – The appeal
made by people in conflict-affected areas" highlights critical lack of rehabilitation services in conflict zones
▶️ Globally, one in three people are living with health conditions that might benefit from rehabilitation. The needs are increasing year on year due to an ageing population and the growing prevalence of chronic, non-communicable diseases, injuries and traumas.
▶️ Rehabilitation has long been overlooked in countries’ health systems. Without appropriate treatment following an illness or injury, many people develop disabilities that could have been prevented with access to rehabilitation.
▶️ In particular, in conflict affected areas, rehabilitation needs are largely unmet: more than 50% of people who need rehabilitation services cannot access them and, in some countries, the access to assistive technology is as low as 3%

DEVELOPING AND ADAPTING REHABILITATION PLAN
The fourth activity/task on the PRACTICE domain for the World Health Organization Rehabilitation Workforce Competency Framework is Developing and Adapting Rehabilitation Plan.
After assessment and coming up with a diagnosis, the next is to make plans for rehabilitation. While planning, there are two important factors to consider:
**Aside from going evidence-based, the patient's rehabilitation/treatment should also be patient-centred. Find out what is on the priority list for the patient and the patient's caregiver/family.
**The rehabilitation plan should also have a multi-disciplinary approach to it.
In the long run, it is also vital to identify when to make necessary adaptations to the patient's rehabilitation plan and suggest and implement them.

Around the world, there is an urgent need to strengthen rehabilitation.
It is estimated that globally more than 2.4 BILLION persons are living with a health condition that could benefit from rehabilitation. Yet more than 50% of these people do not receive the services they require.
Often rehabilitation is excluded in policy and planning for health services. To address this issue health policy and systems research (HPSR) is desperately needed to understand and improve how societies organize themselves to achieve health goals, how different aspects of society, health sectors and government interact, and the policy implementation processes, to improve policy outcomes and access to rehabilitation.
