Mohammed Mabkhot may have left the Intelligent Automation Centre for pastures new, but right up until the last minute before he left, he was still busy representing the work of the centre. 😊 During the first week of June, Mohammed presented the latest paper on the IRaaS project at the 57th CIRP Conference on Circular Manufacturing Systems (#CIRPCMS2024) held in the beautiful city of Póvoa de Varzim in Portugal. He presented his research work titled "Technical and System Requirements for Industrial Robot-as-a-Service (IRaaS)". The paper outlined the functional and non-functional requirements needed to implement IRaaS, focusing on flexibility, ease of deployment, cost-effectiveness, and safety. The work that Mohammed and his co-authors have been doing helps crystallise several servitised robotic concepts, prioritising functionalities of different models of these concepts as well as selecting the most suitable technologies for delivering the robotic concepts' functionalities to the shop floor. It also outlines multiple research challenges and directions from the robotic servitisation perspective. If this is a subject that is of particular interest to you please feel free to message Mohammed M. Mabkhot directly. Niels Lohse, Peter Kinnell, Wen-Hua Chen, Michael Henshaw, Masoud Sotoodeh Bahraini, Cong Sun, Myles Flanagan, Matthew Coombes and Yalei Yu also co-authored the paper. #IRaaS #Industry40 #Robotics #SMEs #Automation #Servitisation

Ingeniarius will be making its mark at the IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, ICRA 2024, in Yokohama, Japan, represented by none other than Beril Yalçınkaya! 🚀 We will be presenting our work titled "Towards Enhanced Human Activity Recognition for Real-World Human-Robot Collaboration", which has been published under the context of the FEROX EU project. The paper delves into the realm of Human-Robot Collaboration within dynamic and unstructured environments. By extending the innovative Fuzzy State-Long Short-Term Memory architecture, we've tackled the inherent uncertainty and irregularity in real-world sensor data. But that's not all - we're also excited to share that we've had a position paper accepted in the ICRA 2024 3rd Workshop on Future of Construction. Titled "Establishing an On-Site Construction Pilot for Collaboration Between Humans and Heavy-Duty Robots", this short paper marks a milestone in our journey, especially within the recently initiated FORTIS Project. This paper presents a pioneering pilot aimed at enhancing the integration of autonomous heavy-duty robots in construction environments, laying the groundwork for future research and development in collaborative construction robotics. These endeavors underscore our commitment to pushing the boundaries of robotics and fostering meaningful collaborations across diverse fields and EU projects! 🤖 A special thanks to all co-authors, including Beril Yalçınkaya, Lucas Costa, Carlos Alexandre Pizzino, Salviano Pinto Soares, António Valente, Fábio Remondino, Rui Barros Garcia, and Micael Couceiro ! #ICRA2024 #Robotics #Innovation #EUProjects #HumanRobotCollaboration #FutureofConstruction

🤖 🤿 ACOMAR THE UNDERWATER ROBOT IS THE INNOVATION PROJECT OF THE YEAR 2024! 🎉 The underwater robot ACOMAR removes mussels and other marine growth from offshore structures, securing efficient maintenance to the benefit of the offshore industry. On Thursday, May 2nd, ACOMAR clinched the title of Energy Cluster Denmark’s Innovation Project of the Year. The robot is created by Simon Pedersen, Jesper Liniger, Christian Mai, Fredrik Fogh Sørensen, and Malte von Benzon from AAU Energy in partnership with Danish energy companies. The close connection between industry and academia is a fundamental aspect of Aalborg University's problem-based learning model that creates substantial benefits for both parties. "We aim to address real-world industrial challenges through applied research. In the ACOMAR project, we've harnessed established sensor technology and algorithms, innovatively blending them. It serves as an exemplary case for us," says Jesper Liniger, Associate Professor at AAU Energy. Glenda Napier, CEO of Energy Cluster Denmark, adds: "Currently, energy companies annually allocate a three-digit million sum to marine growth removal, solely in the North Sea. The ACOMAR robot will reduce the costs of marine cleaning by 30-40 percent, thereby significantly lowering the overall price of green energy production." Partners in the project is: SubC Partner, Sihm Højtryk, Mati2ilt, Siemens, Total E&P Danmark, EIVA a/s, and ECD. Congratulations to all the partners! 👏👏👏 #dkgreen #greentransition #aaudk #videnforverden

A very exciting forum is coming - Robotics Strategy Forum '24 🤖🔜 At the regional forum in Vratsa, Kristiyan Mihaylov from PARAi - Professional Association of Robotics, Automation and Innovations had the opportunity to show us a teaser of what to expect, namely one of Autech's collaborative robots. Innovations, global trends, best practices, software solutions - some of the things to expect at Robotics Strategy Forum. 🤩 As a person from the field of computer science and software engineering, I follow the latest innovations in robots and automation with much interest, and Para will have the care of the forum to present them to us. I strongly believe that companies in Bulgaria will increasingly start to rely on automated processes and trust such robots. 🙏🌟 There are not many valuable IT forums in Bulgaria. This one in particular deserves a visit. Bilyana Georgieva from Lider.bg and I will be there, and you? #LiderBG #PARAi #RoboticsStrategyForum #SofiaTechPark #Technology #Robots #Automation

I'm thrilled to announce that I will present our paper, "EM-Patroller: Entropy Maximized Multi-Robot Patrolling With Steady State Distribution Approximation," at the International Conference on Robotics and Automation (ICRA) 2024 in Yokohama, Japan, this Wednesday (13:30-15:00, Paper WeBT4-CC.5). This work, published in IEEE Robotics and Automation Letters, introduces a novel approach to the multi-robot patrolling problem that optimizes efficiency and coverage through entropy maximization. It’s a joint effort between A*STAR, MIT, and NUS. Multi-robot patrolling (MuRP) has application potential in various scenarios, such as surveillance and vigilance for regional security and hazardous environment monitoring. However, Existing MuRP solutions either involve high computational complexity for the global optimal solution or rely on heuristics for approximate solutions without performance guarantees. To bridge the gap, we propose the Entropy-Maximized Patroller (EM-Patroller), which guarantees per-iteration performance improvement and has polynomial computational complexity. Join us at the presentation and the poster session to explore how we can extend these capabilities in robotic systems. Excited to share our findings and engage with the community! #Robotics #Automation #IEEE #MultiRobotSystems #Innovation #Research #Engineering #ICRA2024
