Applying Circularity with the Right Partners for Your ESG Goals Incorporating circular design and construction strategies into Whole Building Life Cycle Assessments (WBLCA) is not just a theoretical exercise—it’s a practical pathway to achieving measurable Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) goals. However, the success of such initiatives hinges on choosing the right partners and technology providers. Here’s how the right choices can drive results: 1️⃣ Choosing the Right Partner Collaborating with a knowledgeable partner ensures your approach aligns with best practices and industry standards. Experienced partners can identify areas where circular strategies provide the most impact. Streamline the integration of circularity into design and construction processes. Offer expertise to navigate the complexities of WBLCA, from data collection to analysis and reporting. 2️⃣ Leveraging Advanced Technology A forward-thinking technology provider empowers you to accurately model the environmental impact of circular strategies in your buildings. Automate data collection and scenario analysis, reducing errors and inefficiencies. Use intuitive dashboards to track and communicate progress towards ESG targets. 3️⃣ Aligning with ESG Goals Circular strategies directly contribute to key ESG metrics. - Environmental: Reduce embodied carbon, waste, and resource use by designing for reuse, adaptability, and efficient material flows. - Social: Create healthier, more sustainable spaces for occupants, and promote long-term resilience. - Governance: Demonstrate leadership by aligning with global sustainability frameworks like LEED, BREEAM, or WELL certifications. 🌟 The Bottom Line The journey to decarbonized, sustainable buildings isn’t a solo effort. It requires a collaborative ecosystem of trusted partners, innovative technologies, and a commitment to circularity. By aligning these elements, you can embed sustainability into the life cycle of your buildings and achieve meaningful ESG outcomes. #Sustainability #CircularEconomy #WBLCA #ESGGoals #BuildingDesign #Partnership

Is there a trade-off between customer needs and sustainability? In the case of Hilti Group, the answer is rarely. According to Graham B., Sustainability Project Manager at Hilti, customers are increasingly aligned on rapid decarbonization, recognizing its urgency in construction and infrastructure. But here’s the real challenge: standardization. Graham points out that customer resistance isn’t the main hurdle — it’s the lack of consensus on documentation and calculation methods. Without standardized approaches, progress slows. Another key shift? Carbon reduction is now central to building certifications. Take LEED v5, for example — nearly half of its points now focus on carbon. Graham also highlights the importance of multi-attribution in sustainability strategy. A truly sustainable building isn’t just low-carbon at construction — it must also be durable and valuable for decades. This means evaluating multiple factors beyond embodied carbon, including resource efficiency, recyclability, and human health impacts. Without a multi-attribution approach, sustainability decisions risk overlooking long-term performance and circularity. Considering the significant amount of energy used and waste produced by the construction industry, building materials circularity is crucial for decarbonisation. The 2024 World Economic Forum highlighted opportunities for environmental impact and business benefits, expressing the importance of value chain integration and digitalisation plus the need for scaling and investing in circular business models. One strong example is McKinsey’s Circularity Lighthouse Solution, which provides end-to-end digital automation and building energy management through a global recycling platform for construction and demolition materials. As we move from linear models to circular economies, it’s important to minimise waste and maximise performance at every stage of a building’s lifecycle – including each material used its planning, development, and renovation. While there are challenges like lack of standardisation, limited recycling infrastructure, and an increasing need for new skills – the circular economy could save up to US$3.7 trillion annually by 2030, according to McKinsey. #sustainability #construction #circulareconomy
