Findings from a new research project from the Regional Gun Violence Research Consortium (RGVRC) shed light on the needs of individuals impacted by mass public shootings. The project, which collected survey responses from more than 165 people across 48 communities affected by mass shootings in the US, found that social acknowledgment is one of the most helpful resources for survivors and that it can help protect against the negative effects of trauma. Also released today is a video featuring interviews with ten mass shooting survivors from different communities across the US discussing the importance of social acknowledgment in their paths toward resiliency. In my recent project, the primary focus was on addressing gender-based violence (GBV) to mitigate its occurrence and minimize its impact, particularly within the context of preventing incidents of GBV and sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA). This endeavor afforded me a deeper understanding of the intricate connections between GBV and various human rights violations, including sexual, civil, religious and other related rights. Consequently, I consider it beneficial to have dedicated time to delve into this subject matter and remain committed to furthering my knowledge in this field.

The work done by our homicide and senior investigators is exceptional, but there are often neglected aspects when it comes to officer-involved use of force incidents. These include perceptual distortion and human perception limitations. By exploring these topics more thoroughly, I have better understood these significant human factors, which I believe are essential in any comprehensive investigation. We can ensure a more comprehensive analysis by understanding the complexities of perceptual distortion and human limitations. When delivering our Extra-Familial Harms training, a paper that we often recommend to professionals is: 'Won the Battle but Lost the War?' 'County Lines' and the Quest for Victim Status: Reflections and Challenges by Julie Shaw. Using primary data, this paper examines the disparity between the simplistic representations of the 'ideal' exploitation victim and the complex realities of Child Criminal Exploitation. 🔵 The phrase “transitional justice” is, perhaps, one of the most frequently used terms that is largely incomprehensible to people outside of the justice sector. Transitional justice work encompasses a wide range of activities aimed at furthering society’s ability to come to terms with the history and impacts of large-scale conflict, repression, and human rights violations. Transitional justice aims to provide recognition to victims, survivors, and families; to rebuild the trust of individuals in state institutions; to reinforce respect for human rights; and to promote the rule of law, all as critical steps towards reconciliation and the prevention of new violations. Find out more about the five pillars of transitional justice and Synergy’s recent work in the area in our May blog post: https://lnkd.in/dpYZZTii
